xp

i need to delete sp3. how do i do this? the disk i used had it on it. i am trying to reinstall windows and the disk i have is sp2. i read the forum about finfing it in the registry and i have none of those numbers. plz help me. also how do i go to my posts?

 

If you are doing a reinstall, you don't need to delete SP3.
If a repair is wanted, do this;
Method 1: Use the "Add or Remove Programs" item in Control Panel
Click Start, and then click Run.
Copy and then paste the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:
appwiz.cpl
Click to select the Show Updates check box.
Click Windows XP Service Pack 3, and then click Remove.
Click Finish to restart the computer after the removal process is complete.

Method 2: Use the hidden $NtServicePackUninstall$ folder
Click Start, click Run, type c:\windows\$NtServicePackUninstall$\spuninst\spuninst.exe in the Open box, and then click OK.
When the Windows XP Service Pack 3 Removal Wizard starts, click Next.
Follow the instructions on the screen to remove Windows XP SP3.

yeah thats what i tried to say i saw that answer in another thread. it isnt listed in there that way. i got a disk from a ffriend thAt had sp3 already in it .

 

well my computer doesnt work well. I could not do system recovery in dec. it wouldnt work. so i got that sp3 disk from a friend and installed it. Ever since then i have no audio and when ive looked at the important files there are all sorts of things missing. I probabl cant install sp2 cuz my code is for sp3, is that correct? I just wanted to start over like i said before it was soo messed up i couldnt even do recovery. ( my comp came with the d drive)

 

also i have some knid of virus sometimes when i m on the web, it says im infected and looks like it opens up c drive and starts scanning. I have tried everything to get rid of it. ran every program in the malware section of this site.

 

If you are going to wipe your machine and reinstall XP no need to remove SP3. When you put your original SP2 CD's in the machine and perform the install process usually a format occurs first which will wipe everything out.

Make sure you save all your data.
Make sure you have the original OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) XP disks.
Or, make sure you have a legal copy of the XP cd with correct product key.
