There is probably 3 problems here.

    1. BIOS
    2. ACPI
    3. Graphics card

I have a IBM 300GL with Pentium II and 192 MB memory, a blank 7 GB hard disk. The video is an integrated S3Trio on the motherboard. The BIOS is circa 1998. Recently I installed a Voodoo3 video card into the PCI slot.

When I run the Xubuntu Linux LIveCD, first it says something about BIOS is before the cutoff of 2000. Then ACPI force is required to enable ACPI.

The S3 video input is blank if the monitor is hooked up to it now that the Voodoo3 video input is installed.

And continues to say something about does not detect video and must work in low graphics mode or something to that effect, and when I continue, the screen goes black with a blinking cursor, I can type but nothing happens.

I tried to change the video to the Voodoo3 but it does not seem to recognize it. There doesn’t seem to be anything in configuration at startup to change it. In the LiveCD, the drive shows the S3Trio, but I see Voodoo3 generic driver when browsing, but it doesn’t accept the change.
