Sometimes when I watch a divx or xvid film i get the problem that the windows media player slows down and the film is suddenly played back in slomo, even though the sound is perfectly ok (but no longer in sync). when this happens i try to play it in other players such as Divx playa but after a couple of minutes the film gets stuck and the program crashes. hence the film is not watchable in either players... whis does happen with all my films but like i said only sometimes, i tried reinstalling my codecs, video driver etc but no change...sometimes restarting helps and im then able to watch the film. does anyone know how i can fix this??

    My System:
    P4 prescott 3,2GHz
    2 x 512Mb DDR SDRam
    2 x 160GB SAMSUNG SP1604N
    GeForce FX 5200 [NV34.3] 256MB
    PT 880 Neo (MSI Mainboard)

you usually get these problems when trying to play illegal files, such as pornography etc. theres codecs for them but cant help you on that one, you're on your own ;)

ok, are you using windows media player to play these files?
can you try them with quicktime or another free player and see if the problem occurs?

i am using windows media player. this is where it slows down. but when i use for example the Divx Player it does not slow down but after a while it gets stuck and the player crashes..... i think its the same problem that only has different effects on different players

Shut down some of the nonessential programs you have running in the background, to free up CPU and memory resources for the video player.

I had this problem until I downloaded "Kantaris" media player from MajorGeeks.
It fixed that problem. I bet this player would play an 8track tape if it would fit in my computer! I thought it was my Celeron, like all of the other slowdowns I experience. This should be the cure for your problem.
