    Hello,

My mother has a strange problem with her yahoo and hotmail email accounts and I don't even know close to enough to fix it. She has also been walked through numerous attempts to fix it over the phone by her internet provider tech person.

During daytime hours she cannot access yahoo email or hotmail. The rest of the internet seems to work fine. But when she tries to login the email the screen freezes up and eventually she gets the "this page cannot be displayed" mesage. Rarely she makes it to the actual homepage for the email but she can't actually open any folders without it freezing. Late at night, as in after midnight or so, she can get into them all without a problem.

She has wireless DSL through a local dish network. The tech guy said it could have something to do with the dish getting hot during the daytime hours and thus causing interference with the internet. What didn't make sense to him or me was why the rest of the internet seemed to work just fine.

I tried a lot of the common fixes such as shutting off her firewall, deleting all the files, deleting cookies, trying to login from a secure setting, and running every spyware and adware program I could. However some of them such as adaware gave me fits because it said it couldn't connect to their server. I don't know if thats a related issue or not.

I found some references on the net about others having a similar problem with getting into yahoo mail but no one mentioned the daytime vs nighttime issue. Their fixes were things like going through yahoo messenger (didn't work for me), going into yahoo through the secure log in (times out when I click the link), and other things I had alread tried and mentioned above.

    Any ideas anyone?

P.S. I'm sending this from my computer, not hers, in case that matters in any way.

What is the exact url (http address) or method was she is using to log into hotmail and yahoo (e.g., yahoo.com, hotmail.com)?

Is she connected to a router via wired or wireless connection?

When she is able to get to these websites, have her goto DOS (START>RUN>enter "cmd" [ok]; and enter "ping -n 10 -w 1500 yahoo.com > c:\pingyahoo.txt"

When she is UNable to get to these websites, have her go back to DOS (START>RUN>enter "cmd" [ok]; and enter "ping -n 10 -w 1500 yahoo.com >> c:\pingyahoo.txt" (note >> arrows)...

    [replace yahoo.com with hotmail.com]

Using your wordpad or notepad, view c:\pingyahoo.txt to compare (or post) your results - especially any anomolies.

BTW, the satellite heat thing is bogus...

I agree! I'm wondering if this is a secure site issue myself.

What happens if you were to go to:

    https://www.microsoft.com/

    Does it display normally?
