Yahoo Instant Messenger not responding/freezing up

We have a computer that continually has problems with the Yahoo Instant Messenger program freezing up constantly. I see "not responding" on the bar across the top of the IM window. There's a delay with sending and receiving and it seems to freeze the whole system for short period of time. I'm wondering if there is some sort of conflict with another program when this program is running. This happens even when Yahoo IM is the only program open. I've installed Yahoo IM on other Dell computers in the office without problem, but this one always freezes up. (I've already uninstalled and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger several times.)

He has a Dell Dimension 4600. It has 145 GB hard drive and we're only using 12 GB so far. 512 MB of RAM. Windows XP, Service Pack 2. Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2. Yahoo Messenger 6.0.

I've run Norton Antivirus, Ad-Aware and Spybot, but we're still having the same problem. I've already downloaded HiJack This and have my logs ready to go. Do you want me to post it?

If I were you I would start with any firewall software on the computer disable each program to see if it makes any changes also some firewalls IE norton will automatically disable IM in the program controls. Also if you have any adware software running this can cause it not to respond I would think about it and try to remeber before it happened did you install any new programs or did the system shut down for no reason these things help to determin the source not just the problem at hand.
