yahoo messanger ex application error

hello Sirs or Maams , i am new to the forum and not very good with computers but i can get the things done on them i need to usually but i have a desk top and am running windows xp on it but when i downloaded yahoo messanger i get this error

YahooMessanger.exe-Application Error
The instruction at "0x100011a0" referenced memory at "0x100011a0". the momory could not be "read"

click ok to terinate the program
click cancel to debug the program

i have tried to uninstall it and the reinstall yahoo but that does not work either anyone know what i can do??? Thank you all very much for your time in helping me with this daisy
