Yahoo Messenger 2 = New Coke

If anybody was around back in 1985 or perhaps you read your history books, you'd know that Coca Cola came out with the idea to change the original formula of its soft drink in order to do battle with Pepsi. It was hard to believe then that they just changed the formula while leaving people who loved the original formula so much with nothing to choose from. Sounds familiar doesn't it? Yahoo's latest messenger is now what New Coke was back in 1985. Which is why I believe they'll wake up and smell the coffee and bring the original instant messenger back. If not, I won't be surprised if Yahoo becomes nothing but history.

You do know that Yahoo has been sold to Verizon so don't hold your breath waiting for something to come back that was under the old ownership.

Oh I'm sure Verizon will come to their senses after they notice usage of the instant messenger dropping and read the letter that I sent to them. ;)

    Forget it! :p
Overpaid boardroom squatters don't have the spine to admit to their mistakes.
Look what Yahoo! did to Musicmatch Jukebox. And AOL did to Winamp. And Microsoft did to Windows... the list is endless.

I wasn't even ware that Yahoo Messenger still existed. Then again, most of the time I tend to forget that most of Yahoo exists, since anything they can do others can do better.... :p

Yeah if Yahoo had any advantage it was they were one of the pioneers on the internet. In fact back in the 90's when I discovered the internet, they were the only search engine I knew at first. I can't remember which search engines I discovered after that but Bing and Google are my 2 mainstays now. Yahoo is my wildcard. But their instant messenger has always been my fave. It's always been more fun and colorful than all the other instant messengers I've seen. In fact the avatar I use on this board is one of the audibles on the Yahoo Instant Messenger. I love the audibles on their instant messenger and am very upset that they discontinued them on their latest messenger. They do have some gifs on the new messenger but they're about as worthless as the Chicago Bears.

Well I know what Coke did to their original formula too when they came out with New Coke but they corrected their mistake in less than a year.

Well, if the boardroom squatters didn't want to admit their mistake, all they have to do is bring it back as Yahoo Instant Messenger Classic. And Voila! Another choice for the benefit of customers ... not a mistake. :D

Reverting to the 'old' version of Yahoo! Messenger is admitting a mistake. Executives don't do that.
Attend meetings with directors/executives and you'll soon realize the only time big corporations care about customers is when it's financially viable.

You obviously don't know what happened to Coca Cola then in 1995 when they introduced New Coke

My guess is if Yahoo owned Fenway Park or Lambeau Field the retards would try replacing them too.

Yes, Eldon, unofficially, below the surface and behind closed doors it would of course be admitting a mistake. However, officially and for the public to see, they'd of course disguise it with some facade about it being a strategic decision to give their customers another choice in addition to the previously new choice.

As Data Banks is alluding to, back in the New Coke fiasco that will live in infamy, the executives never came out and admitted they made a mistake. They just eventually made the original formula available again, branded as Coke Classic. And little by little, the failed experiment New Coke version was phased out.

MS did it with MS Messenger/Windows Live Messenger - told everyone to use Skype instead. I liked MSM/WLM and Yahoo but Skype has become predominant now, sadly.

This reminds me of my older brother. He once told me that he never admitted to making mistakes or that he couldn't do something. He said when either of those was the case, he would just "reword" it. You know ... disguise it with semantics. Yeah, just like when Fonzie could not say that he was --- "Wrrr Wrrr WRONG." :D

Anyway, so one time I lent my brother several of my Microsoft Access books so that he could learn how to create a database from scratch because he was sick and tired of the one at his job and the idiot that created it and his aversion to wanting to share his knowledge. Some months after that, after not hearing anything from my brother regarding his MS Access learning project, I asked him how it was going. He went, "Oh well, actually, about midway through the project, I realized that somehow it was looking too much like that other guy's database. So, I aborted the project." Secretly, I thought over here to myself, "Oh REALLY?!! Just how do you suppose that happened? That sounds lame. As much as you hated that guy, his database and his secretive selfish ways ... just how did you allow yourself to remotely let your database's look and workings head in that direction? I smell a big case of --- someone wasn't able to do something. Neener Neener NEEner!" :D

I never let my brother know what I really suspected. He would have denied it anyway. :D I guess he would make a good executive and / or politician.

    I do know... ;)
I am not defending Yahoo! But I have seen this scenario to many times.

BTW How much do you pay for Yahoo! Messenger? More than I pay for Coke?

Unfortunately, for executives to listen and do something, tons of people would have to be complaining.

About 3 years ago I had an incident with the repair of my computer at a TigerDirect store. I subsequently took them up on their offer of answering their online "How did we do" survey. I gave them a detailed novel of a scathing review, pretty much accused them of fraud and incompetence. I never heard a peep back from them. I was obviously just collateral damage to them.

Then last year I used the Complain button on BlogSpot to send them 2 extremely detailed accounts of what IMO were critical shortcomings with the BlogSpot platform and how the shortcomings could be fixed for the benefit of them as well as the Bloggers. There too ... never heard back a peep from anyone and nothing has changed. Wouldn't surprise me if that Complain button is actually not connected to anything. :D

I'm just one of thousands voicing my outrage at Yahoo right now. In fact today Yahoo had the nerve to pull the trigger.
