This may sound like a silly request, but, my audibles on yahoo messenger don't work and I'd like to see if you can help.

    I have yahoo! messenger 9.0.0.2136

If I click on an audible, not send it, I can see the animation and hear it but if I send it or if one is sent to me, I cannot see the animation or hear it. So, clearly it is working but yet not working.

It used to work previously and I am not quite sure what happended to my computer that now it doesn't so I couldn't even pinpoint what it could have been. Previously, if someone sent me an audible, I could hover my mouse over it and left click it and it would give me an option to play it. Now it just gives me a "greyed" out option of settings and about Adobe Flash Player 10...

I have googled this problem and I have tried everything from uninstalling yahoo messenger to uninstalling adoble flash player 10 (per instructions from the adobe website) and re-installing older versions of Yahoo messenger and older versions of adobe flash player to deleting files in C/program files/ yahoo/ messenger/cache/audibles etc... so many things I've tried and I still can't get it to work.

    Can you help?

I don't understand the question. The program is yahoo messenger. I do also use Windows Live Messenger version 8.5.1302.1018.

My question was re I have a issue with some sounds when I load Trillian, but don't worry about it :)

Make sure Audibles sound is turned on. Go to the Messenger menu, choose Preferences, then select “Messages” on the left hand menu. Check box “Always play audio when I send or receive audibles"
    See this: http://www.ehow.com/how_3391530_wor...ce=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art

Ask whomever you're chatting with check their preferences too.

Try this if both of you have your preferences in order.

Could also be the person(s) your sending to have older version of flash and need to update. Does it work with anyone you chat with?

Are you loading Windows Live and Yahoo Messenger at the same time, could be a conflict... just load yahoo. From what I see Yahoo msg 9 is buggy, but par for the course IMO.

Here is a list of things to check if above does not help

    Audible sound is turned on.
My friends and I have same settings. Hers work if I send her an audible and if she sends me an audible.
I have tried the suggestions on the yahoo website.
It used to work previously and now it doesn't.
    My boss's doesn't work either.

I don't know what else to do but give up on trying to get it fixed. I thought maybe someone out there might have this problem as well. Audibles are not vital to our interoffice messaging so its not a big deal.

I'm thinking that it could be the way my computer has been set up and that possibly my boss's computer is set up the same way and perhaps my friend's computer isn't set up in this way but I guess I will never know. I asked our IT person but he is not familiar with yahoo messenger and didn't even try to figure it out once he understood what I was talking about.

I'm frustrated with my Yahoo audibles too. What happens is the animation and sound works fine at first. After 2 or 3 days though, they quit making sound and the animation is dead too. The only way I've found so far to get them working again is by booting my computer. This has been going on for months now and I'm sick of it. By the way I just updated my Adobe Flash Player and the audibles are still silent. http://l.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/i/mesg/emoticons7/102.gif

    Data Banks, welcome to Majorgeeks.
You need to start your own thread not add to a 4 year old one.

    Start here http://forums.majorgeeks.com/forumdisplay.php?f=21
click the new thread button near the top left. Mention what version of windows and Yahoo messenger you are running also.

Hey, I found a solution! Go into your registry and delete every occurrence of Adobe Flash Player and Macromedia Flash Player. Reboot and voila! Audibles should work - worked for me! I got this from another website so I can't take credit but I thought I'd share! Hope it works for you too. ;)

Is that a permanent fix though? It might just be easier to restart my computer every time the audibles quit working.

beagle57's reply is garbage. You never go into a registry and delete anything in that manner. If you do a web search for the issue you are having, you'll learn two things: first, there are several fixes posted to try and repair the issue; second, it has been determined there is no 100% fix for the problem.

Hey, it may be garbage but it worked, and is still working. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. :major
