I have had Yahoo messenger on my comp for several yrs and had upgraded to version 7.0 several wks ago. Suddenly, yesterday, it went into cardiac arrest and when clicked on shows this messge................Yahoo messenger has encountered a problem and needs to close". I have uninstalled and reinstalled 2 times. same prob. I disconnected from web and still same prob. I ran anti-virus and several othe programs incl ewido and found nothing. All other programs and sites are ok. I have a 4600 Dell with Home XP. I use messenger to keep in contact with my family and friends and depend on it constantly. Can anyone help or suggest anything? Thanks

Hi Jack, when uninstalling did you also delete the Yahoo Messenger Folder located C:\program files\Yahoo! as there are residual files left which hinder re-install aka a corrupt file.

you should just uninstall yahoo messenger anyway. download trillian. 4 messengers in one. low resources, easy set up, and i like it better than the indvidual programs themselves.

Thankx earl for the suggestion. But all my friends and family have Yahoo messanger and wouldn't trillian have to be used by everyone I message? Thanks

Check first for the files that Halo mentioned, he is probably correct.

Also, the program WindowBlinds can cause that error message with Yahoo. Do you have it installed?

Sorry Jack, its the whole folder of Yahoo you delete, open your C drive up and navigate to Program Files and you shoudl see a Yahoo folder, delete that.

not having much luck. Attempted to delete that folder and got the following message................<<<cannot delete ymapi20040613.dll. Access is denied. Make sure>>> the disk is not full or write-protected and that the file is not currently in use. I got the same message before going to add or remove programs and removed Yahoo Messenger. Prob something simple but I can't come up with the answer. Any other suggestions? Thanx

nope, trillian has aim, yahoo, msn, and icq built in. you can set it up, so it automatically logs into your yahoo id, and you can communicate with anyone on and of the four programs mentioned above. this way, you can talk to people who have aim or msn too, since they are pretty popular messaging programs too.

Boot into safe mode and try to delete that folder as it seems a file is still active/running.

also you can use MoveOnBoot to remove that folder and contents at reboot and saves going into safe mode.
