    Hi guys,

I wonder has anybody else noticed this.

When I’m signed into yahoo messenger - invisible or available, I notice that one or two contacts on my list who are offline on my list (or more likely just invisible to me), even though they are supposed to be offline and I shouldn't see their status at all, but yet I can still see when the sign out... very strange... for e.g.

On my messenger list Jim is offline - grey smilie face.

Later I will hear the exit door creaking noise, and it will get the little message on the bottom right hand corner of the screen saying that ‘Jim has signed out.’

However I was never supposed to know that he was online in the first place.

I'm assuming that he was online in the first place and just invisible to me either by stealth mode or general invisible mode.

I've seen this with at least two of my users and now I’m wondering that because I’m often invisible or use stealth settings because I don't have time to talk to particular people - I’m wondering do they see me sign out even though they never saw that was signed in in the first place... I hope I’ve explained that clearly- it’s a tricky one!

I've googled but have come up with nothing.

    Has anyone noticed this?

    Thanks martin

I did notice this when I used YIM a long time ago.

    What I would recommend:

    1. Update to the latest version.
    2. Check through the menus for options to disable notifications completely. I know MSN messenger has that sort of function.

    Thanks Mada,
I do have the latest version... i'm not sure if there is such an option... Of course its not that i mind hearing them sign out (even though they appeared signed out all along), i'm just want to know that they don't see me sign out when i was supposed to be offline - hence showing that i had been online but didn't want to talk with them!

    thanks for the reply

I've been in Yahoo messenger for 5 yrs. and that has been going on all this time,it's a flaw in messenger. People complain about it to Yahoo but it never gets fixed, you just have to live with it.

Cool Norby - but would i be right in saying that it doesn't happen to everyone? i just spent the last few mins testing all sorts of stealth/invisble/different profile names when signing out and she did not see me sign out once... so maybe it just happens with particular people? if you are unlucky enough?

It only happens if the person that's invisible is in a room when there going off-line. If there at there desktop ( just in messenger ) then you'll never see them. And if you think there on line in a room but hiding from you,go to your friends list and right click there name and then scroll down and click join user in Chat. If there in a room,,,it will take you to that room they are in ( even if there invisible ).

Oh so its only happens when they are in chat! ok get you now, good, cos i hardly ever go into chat... i just wanted to make sure that others didn't see me sign out when i didn't even want them to know i was online in the first place... thanks Norby
