Yahoo Messenger. Win ME n Firewall

Ok... this is going to sound really vague, simply because... ummm it is!

I chat with a friend in the states via Yahoo who uses ME, who's pc had just come back from the repair people. When she now attempts to chat to me, only my old display pic will appear, rather than my new one, and hers will not appear at all.
On top of this, i can send her files via file transfer, but if i try to recieve files from her, i get the error message that she may be behind a firewall and i cannot recieve the file.
Sounds reasonably simple, but... she knows nothing of pc, didnt know she had a firewall on (i presume the repair people activated it), certainly doesnt know what firewall it is.... as she thought it was called Firefox!!
Personally i thought it may be windows firewall, but i dont know how to access that via Windows ME, and theres no info via google at all. If i knew which firewall i was dealing with it may be a help... so what im looking for is a utility which will tell me which one she is running. Logically once i know that, i can get her open it, and alter the settings for yahoo within the firewalls allowed progs.

First question, what is your friends system specs as well as your own.

Second, in Yahoo is there not settings like in MSN which allow you to display a particular pic?

I also have Win Me and there is no built in firewall. I know that Win Xp has that...

Ok... my spec is irrelevent cos tis hers which is the problem, mines fine, as i use yahoo with loads of people and everything is hunky dory! lol

Her spec... i have no idea either. I just know its Win ME she's using. I did get her to install trillian just in case, but thats not sending her pic either. That tells me that the same thing is blocking her outgoings. Whats suprising me is that she didnt get an alert saying Trillian is trying to access the internet, or such like, its just blocked full stop, yet she can converse ok with just text.

I cant get to grips that she has a firewall she doesnt know about which has been set up to block such things. Im tempted to send her a copy of HJT so that at least i can read the log and find out which firewall it is she has.. assuming of course it is a firewall. lol

How is she connected to the internet?

If via a router then that may be the firewall. If so she will need to configure the router - how depends on what router it is.
