Ybrowser error message

My cousin is having a problem with her computer. There is an error message that keeps popping up telling her that ybrowser has an error and can't open. She can open her internet explorer to access the internet,but it is so slow it's pointless. I installed AVG free on her computer,and she swears this is the problem and wants to run out and buy Mcafee. She also thinks that Zone Alarm could also be causing this. Can someone please tell me what the problem could be?

Oh,we tried to uninstall and reinstall her yahoo browser,but it just froze up while trying to install. She is running Windows 2000 professional.

 

You can try safe mode and see how that works (hit F8 before the Windows logo and choose safe mode w/ networking). Then see if you can access the internet easier. If you can no problem there likely is some other software conflicting (AVG, ZoneAlarm, or even malware).

I'd follow the steps in the Malware guide http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 and see if that helps.

I definately would not go out and install Mcafee overtop of the existing problems. This could make things much, much worse.

 

We tried running it in safe mode and the error message didn't pop up,but it also wouldn't connect to the internet. We also ran adaware and spybot to no avail. The message keeps popping up saying that either ybrowser or explorer has encountered an error and needs to restart. I don't know what else to do to try to fix it.
