I live in Michigan and I just recently changed my ISP from a Cable provider to a DSL provider. The DSL provider is SBC (used to be Ameritech & its also my phone company) well the DSL is called SBCYahoo! it works in conjunction with yahoo and ever since I switched I have been getting a pop up that there is an error in YCommon.exe. I can't remember the full error but it said something about an unknown error in YCommon.exe and when I sent that to microsoft it did give me a link which is a Microsoft page and it told me there no specific solution was found and to get troubleshooting assistance directly from Yahoo. There is nothing in the Yahoo help section on YCommon.exe I keep coming up with help on YPager.exe which is not what I need. So, more or less searching Yahoo is pointless and a waste of time.
Anyhow, according to Microsoft the faulting application is my Yahoo Messenger (which is totally messed up by the way) I have uninstalled and reinstalled Yahoo Messenger but I still have the YCommon.exe error popping up a couple times a day.
Just so you know as to how my messenger is messed up when I would get email I coluld click on the little envelope and it would sign me in to my yahoo mail page. I could also click on the little notice that pops up telling you you have recvd mail from so and so and again it would take me right to my yahoo mail page. Well now it won't do that and yes I do have the box checked to automatically sign me in when I click a Yahoo link in Messenger.
So, what I want to know is does anyone have any suggestions or ideas because like I said seaching Yahoo for help is pointless and a waste of time because all I get is help for YPager.exe.
Here is the information regarding this that I have copied and pasted so I would have it for future use to get help on this problem..
    error signature..... AppName: ycommon.exe AppVer: 2003.7.14.1 ModName: ntdll.dll ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00018fea
the files to be included in the report is ... C:\DOCUME~1\DARLAM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\24ad_appcompat.txt

    Thanks,
    shewolf

I have searched and what I have found talks mostly about it being found via spyware programs which is not the case. I am gettin gthis error message directly from Microsoft &/or yahoo (I believe microsoft because it has the Send/don't send error reporting buttons).
I just got it again and it is
    YCommon Exe Module
YCommon Exe Module has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
If you were in the middle of something the information you were working on might be lost.
Please tell Microsoft about this problem. etc. etc. etc.
    Error Signature:
    AppName: ycommon.exe AppVer: 2003.7.14.1 ModName: ntdll.dll
    ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00018fea

Files that will be included in error report:
    C:\DOCUME~1\DARLAM~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\f308_appcompat.txt

Sent error report this link is what they gave me for help.. which refers me to go to Yahoo help for trouble shooting which is a total waste of time.

I don't use Yahoo Messenger, but the Send/Don't Send buttons will come up on any program termination error if Dr. Watson (Microsoft error tracking) and Error Reporting is turned on. That doesn't mean that the error is with Microsoft.

It appears that the fault is when Ycommon.exe attempts to make a call to the ntdll.dll file (it is a functions file that is part of windows). Try deleting the Ycommon.exe file and then reinstall Yahoo! Messenger instead of just reinstalling. Sometimes when you reinstall, the program just checks files and doesn't overwrite them if they are the same or newer.

    Hope this helps.

Forgot to ask something.. how do I delete the YCommon.exe file? Do I just do a search for it and delete it when the search brings it up or do I have to go to a specific place to delete it?
    Many thanks

should really only be one of them installed but yes do a search and delete whats found,

Its most likely to be found in C:\Program Files\YAHOO!\browser\ycommon.exe

:eek: Ok well I did a search for files & folders on my computer for the YCommon.exe and it brought it up that it is in my Program Files in the Yahoo Browser. I know I will delete the YCommon.exe file but I need to know before I delete it what to do so I don't goof anything up.
My ISP is from my local phone company SBC it is DSL and its called SBCYahoo! as it works in conjunction with Yahoo and you need a Yahoo account in order to receive your SBC emails. When I found the YCommon.exe file it was in my program files under Yahoo Browser so what I need to know prior to deleting the YCommon.exe file is after I delete what do I need to uninstall and then reinstall?? Just my Yahoo Messenger, SBCYahoo! set up, or both??
Thanks for the help and I hope I haven't confused anyone and I just wanted to ask this as to what I should uninstall and reinstall after deleting so I don't goof anything up. I prefer to me overinformed then underinformed as I underinformed I tend to totall goof something up.. lol

As per Davids instructions, just delete the YCommon.exe and re-install Yahoo messenger ( no need to un-install first )

Ok I have done all that and so far so good (knock on wood) I am not getting the YCommon.exe error anylonger.
Thanks to all that answered and helped..
I do have a question regarding Yahoo Messenger and I will search for that in the forum and if not found will start a new thread as it is a new topic unrelated to the YCommon.exe problem
    Thanks again..
    Happy Holidays..

Thanks for the B-Day wishes it was a great day...
    Well......... it's baaaaaackkkkkkkkkkkk
All I did was uninstall my Window Washer so I could install my new version of it and right after I clicked the yes/ok button after the uninstall the YCommon.exe came up with the error. Even though I got a msg from the Webroot Window Washer telling me that I do not need to uninstall it to install a new version I did so anyhow.
Maybe this is where my problems are from I don't know but I do use the CCleaner and when I uninstall a program instead of going to the Add/Remove Programs I use the uninstall feature in the CCleaner. Would this have anything to do with the YCommon.exe error I am getting??? Just a thought..
I can't say 100% for sure exactly when the error really did start I think I had only been getting that for a couple weeks but not sure really..
My other problem with Yahoo Messenger is that when I am signed into yahoo messenger and I receive an email I am supposed to be able to click on that notice or the envelope in the sys tray and it will sign me in automatically to my yahoo mail account (yes I do have it checked to sign in automatically). I do get the pop up asking me if I want to be signed in automatically when I click a Yahoo Link in messenger and I say yes and it just removes the little white envelope in the sys tray but doesn't take me to the yahoo mail account.
Thought I would give the background on that other Yahoo Messenger Problem incase that and the YCommon is related somehow.
I am at a loss now as to what to do because I can't keep reinstalling my messenger every 3 to 4 days.
Yes I have done uninstalls & reinstalls of both my Yahoo Messenger and my SBC Yahoo! Account.
OS = Win XP home SP2
    Browser = Firefox
    Yahoo Messenger = 6,0,0,1750
    Norton System Works 2005
    Norton Personal Firewall 2005

Thanks for any help that anyone can give me and also thanks to all that have helped me in the past with this issue and other issues..
    Happy Holidays!!
May everyone have a Safe and Happy Holiday Season!!!
