Hi, okay, so I accidently deleted my sound drive months ago, I can't remember how I did it, but I've been without sound for months. I have 10GB download restriction, I've been downloading many different drivers for example Realtek AC'97, none of them worked, and I often went over my download restriction and had a massive bill at the end of the month. I'm not too good at this so bear with me, here is my details:

Asus Eee PC 4G, wireless module Atheros AR5BXB63.

    OS: Windows XP

    HDA Codec Realtek Unknown (10EC0662h)
    Motherboard 63-1001-000010-00101111-050408-I910GML$A0797000_BIOS DATE: 05/04/08 09:30:03 VER: 08.00.12
Motherboard DMIMOBO: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 701
Motherboard DMISYS: ASUSTeK Computer INC. 701
    Motherboard Unknown

PnP SYN0A00: Synaptics PS/2 Port TouchPad [NoDB]
    SPD 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F 7F (X18J5S72DN)

The problem is with 'Audio device on high definition audio bus'

    PCI / PnP Audio
    Device Description type
Intel 82801FBM ICH6-M - High Definition Audio Controller [B-2] PCI

any help would be much appreciated.

:wave Welcome to Major Geeks! :major

First, install your chipset drivers. Download then from this direct link. Reboot the PC when the install has finished. Then download KB888111 from this direct link. It is the HD audio update from Microsoft, also called the UAA update. Install KB888111. Then install your audio drivers; you can download them from this direct link. Then restart the PC when the install has finished. That should do it! If not, please post again and tell us exactly what's happening, and it may be a good idea to include an Everest report as an attachment. You can get more info about Everest from this thread. Good luck! Let us know how it goes!

How to attach items to a post (this is a link; click the underlined part; all the items underlined above are web links too; click 'em)

You should follow the steps I have already provided (install the chipset drivers from the link I posted above, install KB888111 from the link I posted above, install the sound driver from the link I posted above). I posted all those links and the steps for a reason, not just because I think it's fun or because I'm bored. The stuff is there to help you. Try the steps I have already listed above. If that doesn't work, then upload the Everest report as an attachment by using the steps outlined in the link I posted at the top of this reply.

oh my god!! I could kiss you right now. I followed your steps and while I'm writing this I'm listening to my tunes!! thankyou so much, you should recieve a reward or medal or something. I'm delighted. I downloaded around 65MB so my bill will probably be huge again, but at least I HAVE MY SOUND BACK!!!! :-D

While I'm here, instead of starting a new thread, can I ask you, every time I double click on a file foldermy everest progrme runs. To access a file folder I have to right click and press open on the list. Is there any way I could change this. It gets rather annoying!!!

:-o Awww.... shucks.... I'm just glad I could help. :highfive

As to the Everest problem.... I'm not sure that I totally understand what you're talking about. Are you saying that when you try to launch anything, Everest opens? If so, that is really, really weird, but you can probably just uninstall Everest. If this isn't the problem, please describe it a bit more clearly...

Why not just uninstall Everest? Or use this download to reset your file associations to XP default settings. Download the .BAT file and double click it (you need to unzip it first). Keep in mind that any custom file associations you have will be changed to Windows defaults. However, most people don't have custom associations, and if you do, then you're knowledgeable enough to reconfigure the ones needed....
