Yet another audio problem

My computer is an HP Pavilion a6000n with mother board Asus M2N68-LA. It used to run Vista but I did a clean install of Win XP Pro SP2 and reinstalled the dirvers using Drivermax. All installed okay except the the sound driver. I've ried to get the original driver but the one I found only works with Vista. So I tried one that seemed to work but a new problem arose. It says that a new hardware was found and displays Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio. Can anyone help me out?

Asus M2N68-LA is listed as having a "High Definition Audio" sound card.
Apparently both Intel and Realtek have audio devices with that name.
We would need to know which one you have, to steer you to the correct driver.
You can find out by looking in your device manager
    start>control panel>system>hardware>device manager
click on "sound, video and game controllers". You will be presented with a list of devices.
Copy that list in a reply and I'll try to find the proper driver for you.

It's Realtek, I'm sure. I've tried that download and it installs but when I reboot there's a status message that says it can't find PROPSYS.dll

    The UAA isn't installed correctly.

You have downgraded this HP from Vista to XP. Correct?
HP's are notorious for refusing to install the audio drivers after the change of OS back to XP.

    Try this:
    1) In Device Manager, remove the High Definition audio device (or the unknown device, if there is one) under Sound, Video & Game controllers.
    2) Go into Device Manager>System, right click the UAA Hi-Def Bus driver.
Disable the device and then uninstall it. (Do not re-boot yet)
    3) Uninstall Realtek High Definition Audio Driver (you may just have a folder that says Realtek) through Add/Remove Programs (if it's installed but not working)
    KB888111
In Add/Remove Programs, look for the KB888111 update and uninstall it. (It may have uninstalled in last step)
If you install, remove, and then re-install this update, the update is no longer listed in Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel.
Therefore, you cannot remove this update from your computer.

To work around this problem, follow these steps.
    1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit in the Open box, and then click OK.
    2. Locate and then click the following subkey in the registry:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Updates\Windows XP\SP2\KB888111 (may be in SP3)
    3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
    4. Click Yes, and then exit Registry Editor.
Run CCleaner, both the Cleaner and Registry.

Reboot, but don't let Windows install the driver.

Install your driver, then reboot, again.

The UAA should be contained in this download.

I did everything in your instructions and I installed the driver you gave me but in the Device Manager the UAA driver is still saying it's corrupted or missing. And I used the propsys.dll download that joelsz gave but when I start the computer I get a message saying it's not a valid windows image. Can you explain this?

If it is saying that about the .dll file, it could be a non-valid windows file. I found this warning at that site
I would suggest removing that file and running some malware scans to be sure it didn't have a tag-a-long in it.
These are two good malware scanners to use alongside your AV protection.
RemoveIt Pro is especcially good for .dlls in system32 that are not supposed to be there.

After checking that, you may be able to repair or replace that propsys.dll, if you have a restore partition or your Windows XP install disc. Insert your disc and close the autorun.
Goto Start>Run and type in cmd and press Enter.
    A command window will open.
Type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
This is the System File Checker and will replace and repair missing or corrupted files. It will not alter any of your personal files. You should check with Windows Updates when it is finished running.

I did the scan and after it was finished, that's it. Nothing happened it just scanned and that's it. I was thinking however, of doing a clean install and using Drivermax to import everything except the sound drivers which I will install using the file you recommended, musknipe. What do you think?

    Sorry, I missed your post.

I'm not big at recommending new OS installs, but if that is what you feel you need to do, then make sure to install your drivers in this order.
    1) Chipset
    2) Audio
    3) LAN
    4) Video
    5) All others

I tried the clean install, and it worked. I have sound and no driver problem whatsoever. I thank everyone for all their help
