I go by this whenever I travel to the big city. Can't believe it's been there for almost a year. Can't believe someone got paid money to think this up. Can't believe someone looked at this and said "I love it" and paid money to the someone. Can't believe ANYONE, would want to go there.

If you can't move, how do you call 911? I can see if you have the other stuff, call 911 and can't talk, they will send someone by.

Actually, recognizing the early signs and symptoms of a stroke is one of the big information pushes lately.

Honestly, that particular sign would not be my first choice, but when you really think about it, it stuck in your head didn't it??

When a stroke happens, time lost is brain lost and the longer it takes to get medical attention, the less chance of any significant recovery.

    Just some food for thought.

Of course you're %100 correct calltaker, awareness is indeed the most important thing.

It does make you think. I guess its so that someone can recognise the signs?

Yep. The big thing is that if you are with someone (ie: parents, grandparents, neighbors, etc) who is more likely to have a stroke, if you know the signs, you can get help faster. Remember though, Stroke is not all age related. People can stroke out in their 20's or younger sometimes.

I know, I sound like I am nagging, but having worked in the health and medical field for over 16 years now, it is one of those things that, if caught in time, can be treated and lead to significant recovery.

The few stroke stories I have seen the people in them felt like they'de been hit by a bolt of lighting or a car then after becoming conscious they had lost part of thier movement or speech

Its the first time I'v heard a stroke can just slowly paralyze you,to me it gives the impression you have to be looking for the symptoms but I was under the impression theres no mistaking when you have a stroke confused

interesting how this topic went another way than meant. agree wholeheartedly about knowing and acting on the warning signs, just seems to me that another way of expressing the message could have been thought of. I don't care, I still get a laugh when passing by.

Strokes seem to be the in thing right now, even young people, although some are drug related. The information is basically useless to the afflicted ones, they're unaware anything has happened even though they can't move or talk. People need to be more aware with the early signs.
My mother had a stroke, didn't have a clue. A niece in her 30's with kids had one, no one knows if she'll be a veg.
Sorry if this is getting to serious but awareness is crucial.

    RECOGNIZING A STROKE:

Sometimes symptoms of a stroke are difficult to identify.
Unfortunately, the lack of awareness spells disaster. The stroke
victim may suffer severe brain damage when people nearby fail to
    recognize the symptoms of
    a stroke.

Now doctors say a bystander can recognize a stroke by asking three
    simple questions:

S * Ask the individual to SMILE.

T * Ask the person to TALK, to SPEAK A SIMPLE SENTENCE. (Coherently)
(i.e. . . It is sunny out today)
R * Ask him or her to RAISE BOTH ARMS.

NOTE: Another 'sign' of a stroke is this: Ask the person to 'stick'
    out their tongue .
if the tongue is 'crooked', if it goes to one side or the other,
that is also an indication of a stroke.

If he or she has trouble with any one of these tasks, call 911
immediately and describe the symptoms to the dispatcher.

A cardiologist says if everyone who gets this e-mail sends it to
ten people, you can bet at least one life will be saved.
