My son is starting collage and would like your idea of best lap top for collage

 

From your sons perspective - an AlienWare M17x with a Core i7 920XM with turbo-mode, 6GB+ of DDR3 1066Mhz RAM and the 500G HD, with the optional blueray player.. and maybe some nice speakers?


From your perspective - Something like a Sony Vaio or a Toshiba would probably do him just fine, just make sure it's a Dual-core and has a minimum of 2Gb of RAM. anywhere between 250Gb-500Gb of storage space should be plenty for his schoolwork, and a few games and movies when he's not in class.

 

Plodr is right. Most colleges has specifications for the kind of computers required for access to their network, as well as whether their IT supports MACs or PCs.
