Both me and my sister are having a problem concerning windows 8 computers. We both have laptops that came with windows 8 and have integrated wireless connectivity. every time either of us try to use Youtube the video will stop part way through and not go any farther with the streaming. Then when we refresh the page to try and reload the video it says there is no internet connection. even if we don't reload the page but go away from the page to another like Major geeks.com it will say there is no internet connection. The only way we can get the connection back is by shutting down the computer and starting it back up. I don't really get how this is happening and was wondering if you guys knew what the problem might be and how to fix it so that we can watch some streaming videos without this little problem.

Thanks in advance for any help.

So, two computers have the same problem, right? Who is your ISP? Do you have a router connected to your modem? Are you using an encryption setting (WPA/WPA2) in your router for wireless security? Are you sure you're connecting to your wireless signal and not that of a nearby neighbor?

ISP is verizon. We connect wirelessly using a router (dynex), and use security WPA2 i believe. We have to use a password to connect to it so I am sure we are connecting to the right connection. My sister had her computer for about a month before I got mine and this problem was happening to her then. I've streamed from other places just fine, but the problem only seems to occur with youtube. I wonder if there is some sort of problem between compatibility with windows 8 computers and youtube.

Are you watching Youtube through the Metro app, Metro version of Internet Explorer, or actually through the desktop.

Personally get away from Metro, use something like Start8 to bypass it, and go directly to Desktop, and use Chrome. You can still run Metro apps, with Stardock's MetroMix add-on.

We use chrome. Internet explorer still sucks no matter how much they update windows.

Now that we know you are using Chrome, are you using it in the Desktop mode, or Windows 8 mode? What is the make & model of these laptops, how much RAM are in them, when was the last time you used CCleaner on them, and purged history, etc in Chrome?

Also, can you run a tracert from various sites, like diychatroom.com, majorgeeks.com, wsj.com. If you do yahoo or google, you get routed to the closes server to you, not one across the country or the globe.

we run chrome from desktop (just more familiar interface), They both have 4gb of RAM, and run close to 2 ghz in processor speed. one is a dell the other is a toshiba satellite. I was unaware that CCleaner had a compatible program for windows 8. really should have thought of looking for it. :p

I'm a goober for this but I don't know what a tracert is or how to run one (lazy to look for it sorry) also apparently my sister has told me that she has seen a red bar appear at the top of the screen when she goes to Youtube and if it appears and fully loads than she wont have the problem but if it doesn't appear at all or only gets a little ways then there is a chance that the problem will occur and the video will stop and internet will be shut down. Not sure what that might mean because I've never seen the bar. I'm going to go download ccleaner now so that I can have that.

Sounds to me that there is a malware issue at hand. Start going through the info at the malware forum, and checking both machines out for baddies. BTW, 4GB is min, for 8, you should bump both up to 8, or just max them out if/when RAM comes down again.

wow 4 gigs is minimum. Thanks for that info. I know what I'm going to be saving up for now. Thanks for everything but how can malware be effecting a computer right out of the box? I may not be the safest when it comes to sites but my sister is OCD about what sites she goes to, has never had a malware issue before. are these malware makers getting smarter (why in the world would they make the things anyway) or is windows just including some just for the giggles?

Yep, with Windows 8, 4gb is the min.. I have both my son's and my Toshiba Satellite C850d-st3nx1's with 12gb in both of them. 8 loves having the extra room to breathe.

Yes Malware can affect a computer after you have been using it, even if just out of the box, once you allow human hands to touch it and start going on the Internet.

First thing I ever do is clean out all of the garbage that I can on a OEM system. The DeCrappifier tool is nothing more than a easier way of listing programs in Programs & Features, not anything worth using.

Go through the Malware steps to make sure nothing is causing problems. Then also double check to make sure that your router is not the problem, by posting the tracerts that I inquired, to see what the lag is.

You can also post the outcome from the speed test at http://www.testmy.net.

Personally I would dump that BB POS router and get a real unit. The router is usually 9 times out of 10 the problem, not other stuff.

Go through the list here http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/rankers/router/view which is probably the best solution in finding a better router. I have started to use more of Trendnet's gear on my network vs. Netgear, and really liking their stuff for the price and ease of use, and that it is just as good as Netgear.

The biggest sellers have been the Asus N900, and the Linksys e4xxx series is now outranking others, by those streaming media. I personally do not care for BB's Dynex line, regardless what the gear is.

Hmm. I have Opera browser open with 31 tabs open and have Outlook 2007 and WordPad open and I'm using 2.2GB.
