    Hello everyone

I've an old PC that I want to have a go at souping up a bit, but I've never done anything like this before, so perhaps you could point me in the right direction.

Essentially I'm thinking of upgrading the processor, and maybe adding a bit more RAM. Currently it has a PCChips M810LR motherboard, AMD Duron 700 MHz and about 180 MB SDRAM. I can't find the documentation for the motherboard, and the PCChips website doesn't seem to have the documentation for that precise motherboard.

I'm thinking of getting a cheap AMD Duron 1800 MHz processor - from eBay or elsewhere - and just kind of bunging it in! Will it work? Is there anything else I need to know? Is there a maximum amount of RAM I should consider adding?

Sorry if I sound like a bit of a dunce, and thanks for your help in advance.

    Try going to - www.motherboards.org
They've been really helpful to me, and can help find original documentation, as a spec sheet may not be enough to know max ram, etc....... massive site with an autobot to help find what you need........

    good luck -

While upgrading for just a few dollars more you can get a new motherboard also.
Some places like Tiger Direct hve CPU and motherboard bundles for a very good price.
Then you can use newer and faster RAM, etc.

    Hi guys

Thanks so much for all your help. I've located the motherboard manual at http://www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/89/810s71F.pdf, and have also looked at the spec that D3m3nt3d kindly posted. It seems the board will support a maximum of 1GB RAM, which is fine. But I'm still confused as to how to establish if there is a maximum processor speed. Is the 'Maximum Clock' speed anything to do with this? When I run an Everest report on the system it tells me under 'Processor Properties' that the maximum clock is 1200MHz, but I don't really know what that means!

Sorry to sound like a dunce!

That mean your Mobo can not support CPU over 1200mhz (special for T.Bred..X) so your mobo should be updated bios from manufactory if the new version fix that problem.
