I have a file on a zip drive and am trying to restore it to my main computer. I keep getting and error message that I am using the wrong password but I know that it is correct.

Is there any way for me to find out what the password on the zip drive is?

Just to get rid of the obvious option first... You haven`t got caps lock on have you by mistake?

Cap lock isn't on and the password is all numbers.

There are some software programs that can crack passwords but they do take some time depending on how complex the pw is.

What sort of file is it your trying to access. I presume a rar/zip file. Can you actually get access to your zip drive and locate the file but you just cant extract it?

It is, of course a money file. I can get to my zip drive and even begin restoring it. When the data is restored it asks for my password but then says I've entered the wrong one but it's the only one I have ever used so I know it's right.

So the password is on the actual file and not on the archive?

Sorry I`m a bit confused of what type of file it actually is.

Eg - Its a winrar archive thats password protected containing an excel spreadsheet.

Reason being different cracking programs only work on certain types of files. Once we know what type of file it is we can run a program, tell it that the password is in number format with 6 digits for eg and it starts with 12345. This will cut down the cracking time from somewhere like 24 hours to five minutes.
If the password it comes up with is the same as yours then you know the files unfortunately knackered or corrupted in some way. (Hope not true!)
If it doesn`t come up with your password then you could try running the program in a different mode and see if it can get into it. (Does take a long long time though.)
