zip files open ieplorer

I have a funny bug and i hope software is the right section. I have a few zip files on my pc. some I downloaded during malware removal process. I downloaded the latest winzip to use on them. the bug is this. If I double click the zip file, it should automatically launch winzip as the default program to open them. Instead it try to open internet explorer , repeatedly and doesn't stop. I have to task manager restart to get out of it. On the other hand if i start winzip and do file\open and browse to the file, it opens like it should. It seems like something is amiss with the file assoiation to the default program. Any ideals here would be helpful.

Which OS do you use?
If you open Winzip is there a settings or preferences option in one of the menus? It should have a file association choice there. Otherwise we can try Control Panel.

Edit: Or try right-clicking a zip file and see if Open With gives you an option to set WinZip as the Default program.

 

right clicking and selecting properties allowed me to see default open with program. It was iexplorer and i changed it to winzip. now it will open with a double click in winzip. feel like a noob for not remembering to check that first.

Good work! Not a noob problem. I still have .mv4 files opening with the wrong media player because I haven't bothered to set the association correctly. I guess I should get to that...

Edit: Are you on XP? So we know that your solution works on XP.
