    Hi Everyone,

I would like to say I'm new to the site and am learning lots of hints and info.

My question is I would like info on a Zip program with a high compression ratio, I am currently using Win Zip, to compress files but its only compression files by 2mb ( File org size 132mb after zipping 130mb in size ) smaller that the file I org started out with.

What I am trying to do is compress a bunch of Anime Files (26 eps about 23 minutes long a piece) which are in AVI format. The file sizes range from 132mb to 230mb.

What I am trying to accomplish is to zip all of these 26 files small enough to fit on 1 CDR / CD.

I know it can be done, but I don’t know how to do it or if I even if I am using the right program. I have a CD that I got from a friend of a friend of a friend ( you know how it goes ) who burnt 50 AVI files on to one CD.

That’s what I would like to do so I can erase these files off my computer and free up a lot of space on my hard drive, and be able to install them again if needed or just to watch them of the CD.

If anyone can help me out with a program or any info on how to do this please email me at: chuchy16ca@hotmail.com

Thanks for taking the time to read this post; sorry I made it so long but this is the only way I know how to explain what I am trying to do.

    Thanks Again

    Justin

The size of the raw high quality movie stream for an episode is about 1.5 GByte. One can use the AVI movie-format (Created by movie codecs like DivX, Xvid, etc.) to compress the raw movie stream, so the size becomes 100-200 Mbyte with loss of quality.
The compressed AVI stream cannot be compressed any more using tools like WinZip, WinAce, WinRar, etc.

The only way to shrink the size of an already compressed movie stream is to reencode it with lower movie quality (Less resolution, less sound quality, less detail) or reencode it with a better movie codec that has higher compression. (Though DivX and Xvid is some of the better) or cut away certain scenes in the movie like the starting and ending credits.

I'm going to agree with snakefoot on this but I just want ot add if you want a better compression program get winrar or winace. Both rar and ace will always compress better then zip. Be warned they are slower the ziping though.

Also you can try to rar an avi movie but chances are if you rar a 350 meg video file it will come back as about 349 megs. It will compress just a little bit but unless it's all about shaving off that last meg to make it fit on a cd it's pretty useless. (Plus raring a 350 meg avi file will most likely take the avergae user abotu an hour).
