zipping

i was wondering if anyone could tell me how to do some serious compression
i have winrar and 7zip anyone know how i could get some big files really compressed???

From what I've read on the web, 7z and WinRAR have some of the best compression rates available. You can only compress something to a point, before it will no longer compress. I'm not sure how to do it, but with WinRAR you can take large files and split them into multiple compressed parts; the extensions would be named filename.r01 and filename.r02 and so on. The first part would be named filename.rar and you'd re-join the compressed parts by starting the process on the first .rar file and WinRAR will automatically detect and join .r01, .r02, .r03, and so on....

 

well sadly that does not really help me beacuse i wanted to but files to a cd so even if i do that its still the same size

i wanted to make them smaller sizes so i can put them on a cd and then i can reformat and transfer everything

Have you considered using more than one CD, or perhaps a DVD ( if you have a DVD capable burner ) ?

 

lol i have dvd's but they only hold 4.7 gbs and i have alot so it would be easier if i could compress things

The problem is that video files are already highly compressed and you won't get much reduction in size (practically none) with any zipping utility. I'm assuming you are talking about video files since they are really the only thing that could take up so many GBs.
