I haven't installed SP2 yet and wondered whether anyone is running both SP2 and the latest version of Zone Alarm Free Edition (version 5.1.011.000)?

Are these programs compatible with one another? Is it possible to run two firewalls at the same time? The MS XP2 site makes note of a loss of functionality with earlier ZA versions but does not indicate that this latest version is incompatible.

I just read a successful-installation report from a ZAF user who said that when he finished the installation of SP2 and rebooted, the Security Center recognized his ZAF and TURNED OFF the new Windows Firewall.

He also said the Sec Center told him his AVG anti-v was outdated, and he checked and found that a new version/update/whatever was available, and the Sec Center shutup about the AVG program after the next reboot.

This would suggest that it is not necessary to uninstall the current firewall and the current Anti-Virus program (in my case Zone Alarm and AVG). There seems to be conflicting advice on this, at least judging by the commentary in this forum. I haven't seen any MS advice which instructs users to uninistall currently running programs. Does anyone know for sure?

Nothing is written that you have to uninstall it, but IMO, why tempt fate?

    Uninstall the stuff until afterwards.

We are finding issues with people who have firewalls and antivirus installed during the upgrade. It could be coincidence, it might not be. I know I myself have nuked a lot of firewalls that were breaking net connections after installing SP2.

On the same note, however, I installed on my wife's computer with Panda AV installed, without issue.

I have upgraded to SP2 with no problems. I use the latest ZoneAlarm Pro and the latest AVG Pro. Both were recognized by the SP2 Security Center where it reports that ZoneAlarm is ON and that AVG is ON and up to date. I was given the option to shut off the XP firewall when I installed SP2 when it properly recognized I was running ZA.

I have had problems with the latest free ZA and SP2. Everything works until after my computer idles for approximately thirty minutes. Then I cannot access the internet until I turn ZA off.

I shut down ZA and all Avast processes (actually all non-systen processes) during the upgrade then rebooted, with no problems so far.

@kman-do you have the automatic internet lock enabled?

Same story Just Playin', no probs with install and yeah Windows did recognize ZA on reboot and turned off Win Firewall. Same with Avast! Home Edition.Win said that my AV was Avast and it was turned off and would I like to have Win turn it on for me or did I want to virus chase when I felt like it? Of course I selected the latter option :)
PS: good call on the ZA internet lock. Might just be the prob.
