    Hi

I am losing my internet connection randomly and after many calls to my ISP with them telling me its fine from their end I have tracked the error down to ZoneAlarm.

I am using the free version and right after I lose connection if I check the logs it has blocked access to svchost.exe (incoming). Is it a matter of just allowing this (even though it does say allow) or could it be something else? I have just got rid of malware so I really don't want to let that happen again!

Also explorer.exe occasionally tries to access the internet. Is this safe too? At the moment I deny it.

thank you in advance and apologize for my noobie questions rolleyes

Are you using Internet Explorer to view webpages? If so, then this is trying to access the internet!

Failing that, try allowing svchost.exe (although I've just checked my allowed programs within Zone Alarm and this is not listed).

Thank you for your reply. No I use Firefox, and it is random, even when I am not trying to use explorer (which is rare anyhow).

I don't want to allow something that I shouldn't. After all, a firewall is there for a reason.

Well it happened again and there was no svchost block. So I am at a loss unless I try a different firewall?
