I've been using ZoneAlarmPro version 5.5 for awhile and decided to upgrade to 6.0. I read your advice too late. Sorry. During the installation of the upgrade, I got a bright red message that malicious software was trying to make changes to my registry, asking me if this software should be blocked. I pushed okay. The malicious software seems to have been my Nortons Systems Works, because after accepting this setting, there was a red X through my Norton icon. I tried to undo this setting, but couldn't so I deinstalled Zone Alarm Pro, intending to reinstall it directly from the ZoneAlarm website, this time without accepting that setting.

I could not reinstall Zone Alarm, because of leftover files, so I followed the instructions for a clean deinstall and manually deleted remaining files and folders, including vsdata.dll, vsutil.dll and others. When I went to reinstall the newest version of ZoneAlarmPro, I got the message that it couldn't be installed because the file "SSLEAY32.dll" was missing, so I went to the internet to get this missing .dll file. This did not solve the problem.

So I tried reinstalling older versions of ZoneAlarmPro including 3.7, which would not even give an error message, simply did nothing, and 5.5 for which I had an installation program on the computer. It could not be installed because it could not connect to the true vector service.

When I got this error message which was ("Setup is unable to log into the TrueVector service. Install cannot continue without logging into the TrueVector service. Please use the service manager to shut down the TrueVector service and then restart the installer program.") I went to look what the true vector service was in the "Help and Support" for windows, and got the following message which makes me laugh ...

"Help and Support" cannot be opened, because a system program is not being run. Start "Help and Support" in order to fix this problem."

I tried to restore the computer to an earlier restore node, but it runs through the restore program but fails at the point of rebooting. I tried several different dates from October and even though it's been activated it won't redo the registry.

So, now I have many questions, but the only one that interests me is how can I get my computer back to normal? One of the tools in your spyware webpage "READ THIS BEFORE...", automatically backs up the registry. Do you know which one of the tools does this and could that software act to restore my registry? I cannot find it under AdAware or Spybot or CCleaner, so I don't remember which software does this, or where it would keep the backup

Should I reinstall WinXP and lose my SP2?

This is not the first time I've had problems with ZoneAlarm and their customer service ... pardon my language ... s***s!

    Thanks for your help.

Success! Not after the "clean" delete listed both here at MG and at the ZA website, but after ZoneAlarm Support had me additionally delete folders directly from the registry.
Also, I did not get either the ZA icon nor the user interface until after I watched their movie. I don't know if this is conditional.

Comments about ZoneAlarm Pro 6.0 .... it has slowed down my bootup time and it is treating all kinds of microsoft and norton's software as if it were dangerous and malicious ... whoever is managing ZoneAlarm these days needs to be redirected to another marketing strategy...
