Yesterday, I removed NIS 2004 from my Windows '98 system and am now running Zone Alarm firewall ( in addition to AVG free av). What I'm noticing is that it sometimes takes longer to open a web site, and in some cases, it takes 1 or 2 attempts to do so. If I disable ZA, this problem goes away. I was wondering if this is normal and, if so, is there another firewall that does not have this problem?

Norton has a habbit of once uninstalled via Add/Remove, which is a correct procedure, leaves some file reminents on your PC, which can hinder the smooth running of other similar programs.

To remove the remaining files you would run this SymNRT file ( sadly at this moment in time the tool or webpage its on is having maintainence *in for a quick oil change and engine remap* so will be available later ) ... full instructions will be on that page also one it re-appears.

as to other Firewalls, both Outpost and Sygate are free and good, many prefer them to ZA ( both can be found in the Firewall section links at bottom of this page )

Actually I did the following; used add/remove, SYMNRT, a registry cleaner, edited HKLM/system & software, and went thru the registry via edit, find Norton and Symantic. Did I miss something or should I try another firewall?
