Zone Alarm problems since update

    Is it just me?

    Since updating to ZA free version 10.1.065.000 I can no longer stop internet activity from the tool bar. I have read that this feature has now been permanantly removed from ZA. Which is a bit of a bu**er as I used that all the time when leaving the PC. :(

    It also appears that windows update is disabled now. :(

    But the worst development is that once the PC goes to sleep after being left inactive, it will never connect to the internet again without being rebooted. Kind of ruins the ability to leave the PC for any length of time without shutting it down. :(
    I've looked for answers but must be looking in the wrong places, so would appreciate any help or pointers to resolving at least the last two issues if possible.:confused

    Go to Control Panel,then Administrative Tools ,then Services, and find Automatic Updates,see if it is started ,if not click start if it is click stop,then restart. If you PC is wireless,see if the wireless device is set to run at start-up if not click start or use a start-up manager as in |MG| Glary Utilities 2.40.0.1326. As for ZA free I would reinstall to the most recent version. Good luck!!!! Also check and try to reconfigure your firewall.

    Thanks for the pointers but...

    Automatic Updates does not even appear in the Services list!

    It's not a wireless device and ZA has already been uninstalled and reinstalled several times trying older versions, then updating to newest and also by just downloading the software from ZA.

    Any other ideas please?

    Hi

    Yeaah looks as if the Engage and Disengage button has disappeared as has many other good functions as in the up and download monitor (although some features are now more in the control panel of the app)

    as to your issue

    Windows Update to start with see if you can run this fixit HERE

    If it doesn't list in Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Update\Change settings as actually on and able to "install updates automatically (recommended)" and also test Windows Update by running a scan for updates, then I would start by uninstalling ZA and then see if you can get Windows Updates to work, then re-install ZA again.

    This should be Windows Update. You could try Tweaking.com - Windows Repair Portable 1.5.5 available at http://majorgeeks.com/Tweaking.com_-_Windows_Repair_Portable_d7222.html to repair Windows Update. If this doesn't work, I would suspect a possible malware infection, TDL4 or similar.

    Quick update...

    The Windows repair at Tweaking.com looks to have cured the issue and Windows update is now restored and working correctly. So thanks to _nullptr for that!

    Doesn't fix the ZA issue of losing the Internet lock functionality but hey ho!

    Big thanks to all who helped me out here!
