ive just recently downloaded Zone Alarm Firewall, and am currently using the free 15 day Pro version and then it said i can switch over to the free version after 15 days.. but ive been having trouble with this Firewall.
sometimes webpages wont load and i think its because of a setting in Zone Alarm.
im on dial-up, i use Firefox for my browser, and the status bar on the bottom sometimes it will only say- Looking up (site address) ..and then a message will pop up that says " (site address) could not be found. Please check the name and try again.

ive had people tell me and ive seen places that say svchost.exe is safe and should be allowed, yet in my log viewer for Zone Alarm it has svchost.exe being blocked on numerous occasions. it will say "packet sent from IP# (TCP port#) to IP# (TCP port#) was blocked." they are always Medium rating. under the headings it will say.. protocol- TCP (flags:S) program- svchost.exe Direction- incoming
sometimes if i disconnect and then reconnect through dial-up that same page will load.
..should this be normal to block svchost.exe, is that what is causing some pages to not load sometimes, is there somewhere to change that setting to allow svchost.exe ??
is there anywhere to describe the settings in Zone Alarm to program it better for me ?

Try this: double-click the ZA icon in the tray and choose the Program Control section, Programs tab. Now find svchost.exe in the list, right-clcik the name, and choose Remove and say Yes. That forces ZA to begin again with svchost.exe, without any history of permissions or blocking from you.

I've never heard of svchost.exe being in the Programs list for ZA. I have no idea why it would be there. Svchost has to do with your own machine's services, and needs no contact with or input from any Web or Internet source, so far as I know.

If you remove it from the list, it shouldn't come back.

while I haven't had connectivity problems, I also have scvhost.exe being denied internet access all over the place. Also, I can't seem to find scvhost in the programs tab on ZA.

I came in here and did a search to see if it was a malicious piece of code, and found this thread instead....
