zone alarm

hey i got a XP pc and iam tring to find as much protect i can and i was told to get zone alarm now that iam a newb and dont know how to use them propperly and stuff. Id like to ask when i dl it it says it autimatically opens and starts protecting when i start my pc is this true? also do i gotta do anythign to it other then fill out those few questions it asked me? Also is zone alarm really good so no1 can see myy or see what iam doin on my wireless pc? And another thing it popped up scannin status and it says adware and then it has few optiions to delete to delete on reboot to quaritine and to repaire well sense i dunno wat some of them do wat does deleting actualyl do to it cause if its a virus u delete it still on ur pc. and if u repair it wth does it do? and wat is quaritine and so on i need help ty

 

Silas you should really honestly follow what I told you to do exactly in the other thread, as I took you through protecting your system step by step as I realise you are a bit of a begginer.

Zone Alarm is a firewall. A firewall is like a bouncer/doorman, working the doors on your computer. It will protect anyone from getting stuff off your computer, or stuff on your computer getting out itself. It pops up questions when you first get it to learn your computer, but when it learns your computer you will hardly notice it is there. For example it will say Internet Explorer is trying to Access the Internet, when you try to use IE, you just click always allow and then it will never ask you again.

You need to get spyware protection to stop spyware. Spyware can do things like put programs on your computer that record all the keys you press or pinch your information. Then they sed it back to some **** who will try to rob you.

You need a virus program to stop viruses. Viruses are basically nasty ****s. They come onto your computer and basically just mess it up for fun.

As i said, follow what I told you and I can hand on heart guarantee that you will be a hell of a lot safer then than you are now.

These steps however will not protect your WiFi signal, if someone sits outside your house on a laptop or maybee in the next house/flat, they could intercept your information. But I beleive someone told you how to set up Encryption in another thread? If not maybee someone else could help this guy do this step by step, easy as possible as im sure everyone can relate to being a begginner and all the jargon dosent help.

Also it sounds a little like you may allready have a virus from what youve said above, if you think this is the case, post in Malware section for the correct proffessional assistance.

 

wayne i did download those things but like ever sense i downloaded zone alarm it gives me errors like msn error and a mw file error and then when it loads up it shows this file that is i guess bad and the options are to delete it delete it and reboot then to repair or to quaritine(which i dont know what these totally mean) but when i click each 1 and apply it doesnt work. so i dunno add me on msn and maybe i delete them and re download and do step by step ? can i post my msn here and someone add me ?

 

I think your MSN addy was remvoved, If you click on my name it will show you my profile, in it is an msn addy where you can contact me. Its whether or not i am online at the same time as you as to whether i can help.

By the sounds of it also you have downloaded ZoneAlarm Security Suite, which is the wrong program. You want the free firewall, when downloading it would have gave you the option, as I said before you should have clicked no to anything else it asked you.

If its coming up with delete+quarantine it sounds like you may have a virus.

To be honest mate, all i can advise you to do is remove everything you have (ZoneAlarm+AVG) and do as I said step by step before. I cant help you any more than that and cant really word it any more simple. I am not really much of a pro myself, I learn stuff myself here, mainly.

First of all though It sounds like you have malware, unless your virus programs are making false alarms, it sounds looking at all your threads you now have AVG antivirus, McAfee Security Suite and ZoneAlarm Security Suite! This is a really bad thing, you have 3 active virus programs, your supposed to have 1!
