Here's my situation, I had tried to install Zone Alarm but something happened during the installation and I uninstalled it. Now I am trying to reinstall it and I get the error "Setup is unable to log in to the TrueVector Service." I have searched all over the place and I always get the same answers, like go into services and stop the service or use net stop "TrueVector internet" try using vsmon.exe -unload. But in the end, I cannot find the way to stop this service from starting, and I can' stop the service once its started. I've tried deleting every trace of it in my regedit but still no luck. What should I do? C:\WINDOWS\system32\ZoneLabs... vsmon.exe dbghelp.dll are the only 2 files in that directory and the only 2 files I cannot delete because there in use. Im at a loss here

Here's a little something I found in regedit actually. It shows vsmon running as TrueVector Internet Monitor, but I tried net stop "TrueVector Internet Monitor" and net stop "vsmon" both times I get "The specified service does not exist as an installed service." I can't touch any of the files show in the .jpg because regedit wont let me.

Launching windows in safe mode will hopefully prevent the files from being used automatically by the system at start up. To do this, try the following steps:

    1. Restart your computer
    2. When it powers back on, begin tapping F8
    3. You will be presented with a boot options menu
    4. Choose safe mode

Windows will load, and you should be able to delete the files (as they are theoretically not in use), and try your install again.

Ok, hate to say it but I just when into Safe Mode, but still the file is in use... =(

Then, we'll have to stop whatever is running it in your startup list.

    Try this:

    1. Hit windows key + r (or click start --> run)
    2. Type 'msconfig' without the quotes
    3. Select the 'Startup' tab

Here, there is a list of everything that runs when windows loads. There should be an entry that applys to vsmon.exe. Uncheck the box next to it, apply and restart your machine. Hopefully, it will no longer be in use!

If that fails try the following steps:

    1. Hit windows key + r (or click start --> run)
    2. Type 'services.msc' (without the quotes)
    3. Press enter (or click OK)
    4. Highlight any service with a single click
    5. Type True ... this takes you almost exactly to the TrueVector service
    6. Right click the correct service and select 'Properties'
    7. Here, you can set the service to disabled, and stop it.

After performing these steps, truevector will be stopped if it was running as a service. But, IIRC, it actually runs as a startup item, so try the steps below first.

That's the thing though. I already tried both those steps, there is no vsmon or truevector in either services or startup menu or even the task manager.

I've tried all that stuff exactly how it says it, and still get the error. I got the 2 logs 1 from the virusscan the other from hijack it. And another picture of the virus that keeps popping up.

Okay, awesome. Now, you're ready to be helped by Majorgeek's experts (I'm just a nerd who likes to help). I recommend that you post exactly what you did here, but in a new thread in the malware forum. Chaslang, Shadow_Computer_Dude, and BJGarrick are all pros at helping people with this sort of situation.
