What if anything will I have to tweak to make sure this version of firewall still protects me?

You won't get "tweaks" here on MG, to crack programs.
As suggested earlier, install ZA free version. A hell of a lot of us use it. Bazza

I don't want to crack anything, I didn't mean it like that.

Installing the free version now. I have a wireless internet connection using a DLink router. As it is with routine, I still disconnect the phone line from the wall socket and turn off the modem once I'm done with the internet. The internet lock or stop all activity option on ZoneAlarm, would activating this be enough to guard against the modem being used without my knowledge?

yes as it blocks all interent activety, however a cavet to this is that some applications are set to still have access through the the Lock ( Pass Lock ) to adjust this goto Program Control > Main > click in the Automatic Lock section Custom and choose the "Block all internet access" > OK

you can also setup this function to automatically engage after a period of inactivity.

We get a few trying to crack various software and they usually get short shrift here. Bazza

'scuse me, but I wanted clarification...

If ZoneAlarm runs on the PC, how does it keep anyone from using the wireless router? I'm assuming that the PC only connects downstream from the WiFi router.

Do you really care if someone nearby steals some bandwidth you aren't using?

Do you have encryption and passwords turned on for your WiFi router? That would prevent neighbors from using any of your bandwidth without your permission... yes?

    Thanks heaps so far everybody!

The Block All Access function is now turned on.

When I do activate though, will I be able to leave my modem on and connected without risking attacks from malware/spyware/virus/hackers?

My (Aussie) ISP works by megabytes downloaded and not by time connected, I think - this is another thing I am confused about. If turn the PC off, is it necessary to turn off the router, the modem, and disconnect the modem line from the wall as well?

As it is with the new wireless router, we've had a few ocassions where we've plain forgotton to turn off the router/modem/disconnect the phone line because they are all in another room of the house!
