    Hello,
I've been using Zoom Player for a few years and had no serious problems, but lately I'm not able to play CDs through it.
The playlist appears, but when I hit Play, nothing happens.
    Then this message appears:

Access violation at address 100127A0 in module 'cddareader.ax'. Read of address 02107000

I have the appropriate filter installed. In fact I've uninstalled and reinstalled just to be sure, but it doesn't change anything.

I've recently updated to a new computer, still using XP Home but with a new Gigabyte motherboard GA-P55UD3. Other than that I can't think of anything that might be causing this.

    Any help would be appreciated.

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, Private Fumbler...

Try this real quick: click Start, Run, type 'regsvr32 cddareader.ax' (sans quotes), click OK...then, verify that this does or does not work...

Also: does the optical drive work with other applications?

Hmm! Seems I don't have it installed after all. Message:

LoadLibrary("cddareader.ax") failed - The specified module could not be found.

I downloaded the Gabest CD Audio Filter as directed by Zoom Help pages

    http://www.inmatrix.com/zplayer/formats/cdaudio.shtml

and ran what I thought was the install process...

RE your question about the drive - it's working fine for DVDs and setup disks.

This is becoming a truly educational experience.
With Zoom I always thought it was a matter of opening the Install Centre, which then downloaded and installed your selected filters, and you were ready for business. Not so.
cddareader.ax has to be added manually to the system using regsvr, as you say Caliban. But before I could do that I had to activate windows installer.

So, done that, got the message that cddaetcetc is installed, and STILL ZP won't play CDs.
Same access violation message as at the start, except that the read of address has changed to 024F7000

Okay, I've finally admitted defeat. Searched ZP site and followed their instructions precisely for install of the .ax file, even got the message confirming it was correctly installed. STILL ZP does not play CDs.
So I went looking for a nice light piece of software that only plays cds. Through this site I found Maximus.
It operates as either the full prog or as SmallCD, which sits in the tray. Put the disc in and away we go. A pop-up menu gives options for track selection and the usual functions.
The second link on this page worked for me.

Sorry you couldn't get ZP up and running, but that Maximus looks good. And, the fact that it works pretty much checks out all of your associated hardware and Windows components.

Thanks for the feedback, and good luck! :major

Thanks. In ZPs defence it plays music off the hard drive and DVDs without a problem. But the makers promote it as "the most Powerful, Flexible and Customizable DVD and Media Player for the Windows PC platform", so you would expect plain old cds would be no problem. CDA format is listed among the compatible formats, after all.
Anyhow...(shrugs) Maximus is doing the job without a hitch. I'm surprised that it isn't better known.
