Browser hijacking

I'm having a number of issues. One is a Google hijack issue, which I've had for a few months now - the first time I click on a Google result, I get redirected. If I go back and click the link a second time, it's OK. This happens across Chrome and FireFox.

Another issue which started the last few weeks is that when I click a link or tab or anywhere on a web page, I get a new tab opening up, which is some malware masquerading as a program (e.g. Flash or Java) and telling me I need to update. And a third recent issue is that I'm seeing ads on the Google homepage and Google results which shouldn't be there (they even say "ads not by this site", which is rather polite for malware :)).

Also another issue that is very recent is that I get pop-in video ads in the bottom right of my browser. They don't usually happen, but it is still frequent. So far I've only seen this in Chrome, but I don't use other browsers often enough to know if it happens in them.

I've followed the instructions in the Fixing Google Redirection/hijacking and other redirection problems thread, which also led me to the Vista, Win 7 and Win 8 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure and READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker) threads. I've tried following instructions as best I could - however I've never done this before, so my apologies if I made a mistake with any step.

I had a minor issue with MGTools, but I don't think it was important.

I had more log attachments than allowed, so I attached the MLogs.zip, and zipped the other logs together. The other logs are from GooredFix, Hitman Pro, Malware Anti-Bytes, MBRCheck, RogueKiller, and TDSSKiller.

If I've attached more logs than required I apologize. If any other logs are required or if I've done something wrong, please let me know :)

TiVo Desktop 2.8.2 <--- Uninstall this.

Then: Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista, Windows7 or Win8) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

I uninstalled the Tivo Desktop, rebooted and ran GetLogs.bat as admin. Attached is the C:\MGlogs.zip.

I again ran into the same error I described in this thread, but otherwise it ran fine.

Before we continue, you need to use MSCONFIG to put the machine into normal start up mode.

    Uninstall the below:
    • iLivid
      [*]SearchNewTab
      [*]Updater By SweetPacks 2.0.0.586

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    • R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://start.sweetpacks.com/?src=10&st=12&crg=3.5000006.10045&barid={F5C67BF1-E512-11E2-BAF2-001FC68CD875}
    • O2 - BHO: (no name) - {5C255C8A-E604-49b4-9D64-90988571CECB} - (no file)
    • O2 - BHO: Updater By SweetPacks Helper - {7D4F1959-3F72-49d5-8E59-F02F8AA6815D} - C:\Program Files\Updater By SweetPacks\Extension32.dll
    • O2 - BHO: SearchNewTab - {861D4949-CB9A-BB36-845B-35CFAAF84FAF} - C:\ProgramData\SearchNewTab\51d6140f3e8e2.dll
    • O3 - Toolbar: SweetPacks Toolbar for Internet Explorer - {EEE6C35B-6118-11DC-9C72-001320C79847} - C:\Program Files (x86)\SweetIM\Toolbars\Internet Explorer\mgToolbarIE.dll
    • O23 - Service: Updater By SweetPacks - Unknown owner - C:\Program Files\Updater By SweetPacks\ExtensionUpdaterService.exe
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Delete these if yous see them:

    • C:\Windows\tasks\At1.job
    • C:\Windows\tasks\At2.job
    • C:\Windows\tasks\At3.job
    • C:\Windows\tasks\At4.job
    • C:\ProgramData\SearchNewTab
    • C:\Program Files\Updater By SweetPacks
    • C:\Program Files (x86)\SweetIM

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

[IMG] Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
    • Please save the work in your browsers before proceeding.
    • Double-click JRT.exe to run (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
    • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
    • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete.
    • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
    • Please attach JRT.txt to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let us know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

Thank you! I chose Normal boot mode and rebooted. Oddly, I had some corrupt windload.exe error where I had to use my Windows disk to Repair my computer, though I'm assuming that's a hard drive issue rather than anything to do with malware.

I uninstalled the programs you listed, but was unable to find the following after analyse.exe:
I was also unable to locate the following folders:
I am assuming these missing items were due to my uninstalling SweetPacks earlier.

Currently I'm still getting video pop-in ads in the bottom right in Chrome (not sure about other browsers as I haven't used them as much). They appear to come randomly. My browser hijack issue appears to be fixed, though.

I have loaded the logs you requested. Thanks again :)

Might I suggest you install something such as this to prevent the ads? :)

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Thank you so much! I'm getting some random pop-ups now, but not a big deal, and the browser hijacking issue is fixed. I really appreciate your help, thanks :)
