I recently uncovered 2 Java:Djewer infections and 2 Java:Agents in my Java cache during a boot scan with Avast. This is what the scan results looked like:

File C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\28\68a9cc5c-16f74a5a|>________vload. class is infected by Java:Agent-AP [Trj]

File C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\28\68a9cc5c-16f74a5a|>vmain. class is infected by Java:Agent-AQ [Trj]

File C:\Users\username\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\5\6a183b45-4cfd5d53|>vmain. class is infected by Java:Agent-AO [Trj]

File C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache3524437937497763106.tmp|>quote\mailvue. class is infected by Java:Djewers-T [Trj]

File C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Temp\jar_cache3524437937497763106.tmp>quote\Skypeqd. class is infected by Java:Djewers-T [Trj]

I had Avast delete the infections and I cleared the Java cache and the browser cache for good measure. The infections have not shown up in subsequent scans. The thing that I need to know right now is what Java:Djewers and Java:Agents do. From what I have read, it seems like Djewers divert you to different urls. I realize there is the potential for phishing there, but as far as I can remember I have not been redirected and I always check the authenticity of pages with log in information. Aside from phishing, is there any other way the above mentioned infections can steal passwords? Such as logging key strokes or stealing files on the computer etc? I have a ton of passwords I would need to change if that were the case, and it would easily be several hours work. I realize doing it is a good precaution, nonetheless, but what I want to know is if the above mentioned are known to steal passwords.

    Thanks!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

Useless copy and paste answer that did not answer the question at all. I didn't need help with malware removal, I needed to know whether the infections I posted had been known to steal passwords. It's ok if you don't know. I can see I won't get any answers here, so I will just ask at another forum. Thanks for your time!

As a matter of fact that is not the case at all. I can't simply look at some generic name that avast has decided to give these threats, which could of course also be false positives. ;) Until you attach the requested logs, (because something else could be lurking) I cannot help you. But feel free to flit off to another forum if you like. Plenty more people in my working queue who need help.

See how much more informative that was than your long copy and paste answer? And much shorter too ;). Thanks again for your time.

Yes, and I can understand how you felt too, but honestly, I thought we could dig deeper after seeing logs from running the tools. Perhaps it would help us ID anything else that could be running riot on your machine, but as I said, avast has given very generic names to those "threats"

    You're welcome.

And I see you got a similar answer over at the TechGuy forums too ;)

Haha, I'm flattered that you've taken such an interest in me that you have time to stalk me on other forums. Didn't you say you had a "working queue"? ;)

LOL Thread closed, your attitude stinks. I am always interested to see what other forums have to say.
