I found your site after I got the error message regarding Dr. Watson's postmortem debugger. I got a new Dell computer that was supposed to be fast enough and contain enough memory to easily run my Dragon naturally speaking dictation software. The computer was purchased after my previous computer's hard drive crashed. I had a company recover most of the files and they were placed on my new computer. this new computer with more memory and a faster clock speed but seemed to be more sluggish than my previous computer. Their support desk could not seem to improve the performance. As a result I've always had problems with my HP all-in-one scanner; opening, reading, and closing, PDF documents, and creating PDF files. my HP all-in-one and the Adobe software would frequently lock up my computer. Sometimes it took awhile to figure out how to get it to shut down to re-boot. I uninstalled and reinstalled the HP software no less than four times and may have been as many as six times under the guidance of Hewlett-Packard's support. While it no longer seizes up my machine it prevents me from completing any tasks while sending documents to the printer. It seems I ought to be able to hit print and keep on working but I can't. I've had similar problems with the Adobe software Dell has helped me uninstall and reinstall two or three times. The current state of affairs is if I open a PDF document from the Internet while using Firefox I cannot close that document without it seizing up my computer at which time I have to reboot. Every time I reboot I have those windows that appear informing me certain programs in the background are shutting down. I typically get anywhere from two to six windows that have difficulty shutting down sometimes they are unable to shut down and I have to manually close those windows. I've been told these hangup because of Malware. otherwise sluggishness in computer operation manifests itself as programs that opened slowly, close slowly, interruptions in recording keystrokes, and menus that sometimes are slow to drop. Also it seems as if I need to close several programs the machine can only close one or two at a time and then when those are closed I have to choose for a second time to close the remaining programs.

I've also noticed frequently on automatic updates and manual updates of software my HP will not successfully update nor will either updates to my Windows program and/or office 2003. On occasion other programs will also fail to successfully update. Sometimes I can go and manually update the software and then we usually choose the critical updates only. I also noticed while the Dell support person, after gaining control of my computer, was cleaning out unwanted programs most of the programs I use on a daily basis were listed in the Add and Remove programs window as being rarely used and gave a date of last usage usually more than a year ago. We got into this discussion because he almost removed programs he thought I didn't use but in fact used very frequently. Another frequent problem I have is using links from e-mail to websites. Up until about six months ago I was able to click on these links to access the website I'm no longer able to do this must copy and paste the links now.

I first completed the Read and Run Me steps about two weeks ago and cleaned out many items that my Norton Internet security/virus program and my spybot have missed. At that point I went back to work because things seem to be moving better at first. Performance quickly deteriorated to the previous situation and now I'm back running the readme first steps and saving logs. The logs from the first run through have been erased and the logs being attached on the most recent ones. I appreciate any help you can give me in getting my computer running smooth again.

I hope you all have a very Christmas and a happy new year.

Also, couldn't find the Norton Nprotect bin. I have the latest version of the program and it may not have one. I couldn't remove some of the things in the anti-virus Quarentine because they were CCleaner and other things I didn't want removed. I tried to load Ewido and it wouldn't load. One of the scans picked up view point manager and I couldnot remove that.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

You need to actually attach the logs.;) Make sure you are following the instructions for attaching them. The below is a quote from the READ & RUN ME from the Windows XP procedure ( you did not say what Windows version you have and without logs we cannot determine for ourselves):

Can't find MGLogs.zip. Found MGLogs on C drive previously when I though I sent them. I can't find even after doing a search. MGtools.exe is there. Shall I run it again?

I appreciate any help you can provide.

Yes download this new version MGtools.exe and overwrite the old file. Then run it. After it finishes, attach the C:\MGlogs.zip file. This is exactly where it will be.

You are way out of date with your version of SUPERAntiSpyware.
    • Please uninstall your current version (this is necessary).
    • Then download this SUPERAntiSpyware
    • Install this new version. It may tell you that you need to reboot to complete the installation. You must reboot at this time.
    • After the reboot, run SUPERAntiSpyware and immediately click the Check for Updates button to get more updates for the database.
    • Now run a new full scan of your system. And attach this new log.
You are also out of date with the definitions for Malwarebytes, run it and update to the current database and run a new scan with it too. Attach the new log.

None of your logs have indicated any malware problems. You would be better served posting any remaining problems you have in the Software Forum.

But I do wonder what the below task are. Are you running some kind of automated backup program for something?
    Code:
    2008-12-19 c:\windows\Tasks\backupf.job
    - c:\windows\backupf.bat [2005-12-13 09:47]
    2008-12-22 c:\windows\Tasks\backupm.job
    - c:\windows\backupm.bat [2005-12-13 09:46]
    2008-12-20 c:\windows\Tasks\backups.job
    - c:\windows\backups.bat [2005-12-13 09:48]
    2008-12-18 c:\windows\Tasks\backupth.job
    - c:\windows\backupth.bat [2005-12-13 09:46]
    2008-12-23 c:\windows\Tasks\backuptu.job
    - c:\windows\backuptu.bat [2005-12-13 09:46]
    2008-12-17 c:\windows\Tasks\backupw.job
    - c:\windows\backupw.bat [2005-12-13 09:46]
I also recommend that you uninstall A-squared and Ad-Aware which are just a waste of System Resources and SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes that we had you install are much much more effective.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /u
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /u, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
      • Delete the C:\combofix folder from combofix (if it exists)
    3. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    4. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    5. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    6. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    7. You can delete the C:\MGtools folder and the C:\MGtools.exe file. You can also delete the C:\MGlogs.zip
    8. If you are running Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures in step 3 the READ ME for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    9. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
