    Hello,

I've been dealing with a persistent redirect virus that I believe has been removed with the cleaning procedure you provided..
Though I still have iexplorer popping up as a background process and can hear videos and other such ads playing in the background every 5-15mins.

I've been digging around to find the source of the problem with no luck.

Got the logs for everything but combofix which I didn't manage to run.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky
Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller
You need to uninstall AVG so that you can run ComboFix. This was stated in the instructions.

Alright, Must of overlooked the AVG bit, but it is uninstalled now.

I can't seem to run TDSSkiller.exe it just never comes up. renamed it also to a *.com extension under another name and still nothing.
I had the exact same behavior when my task manager was disable also, no error message, just nothing coming up, but task manager opens now.(been working since the initial clean procedure)

Okay, so can you run ComboFix now?

Try running in safe boot mode.

Ah, thanks for helping me with this.

ComboFix is done and ran, uploaded the log.
Rebooted in safe mode as well and still no dice with tdsskiller. I get the "Do you want to run this file" prompt this time though, clicking run doesn't seem to get me anywhere.

Do you appear to have things missing from your Start Menu and All Programs area? I'm guessing that you may have an infection that hides these on you; however you did not mention anything about this.

Please delete the C:\Windows\MGtools.exe file. This is not where we asked you to save or run it from and it is an easy way to get it detected as malware. You should not save things in the Windows folder. This is where Microsoft files for Windows should be.

Let's do some miscellaneous cleanup along with removing some leftovers from AVG since it still did not cleanup after itself properly.

Uninstall the below old versions of software:
    Java(TM) 6 Update 20

Run this Disable/Remove Windows Messenger to remove Windows Messenger. Do not confuse Windows Messenger with MSN Messenger because they are not the same. Windows Messenger is a frequent cause of popups.

Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it has expired or need to be updated to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box into it:
    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe
    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below
    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up because you recieve the following error: Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion then you will need to reboot your computer which will normally fix this problem.

After reboot, now install the current version of Sun Java from: Sun Java Runtime Environment
Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista or Win7, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:
    • C:\ComboFix.txt
    • C:\MGlogs.zip
Make sure you tell me how things are working now!
