OK. So I have the Internet Security 2010 malware on my computer.

The first problem is that I can not start Windows in any mode but Debugging mode. I get a blue screen saying that an antivirus program is preventing windows from starting normally but also in safe mode.

So... In debugging mode I have been able to run Rkill to stop the scripts which allows me to run Malwarebyte. However, after each scan, I am left with a handful of .dll files that can only be removed on startup.

The problem remains: I can't start Windows in anything but debugging mode and when I restart in Debugging mode, even after the Malwarebyte scan, Internet Security 2010 is back up and running all over again.

The leftover .dll files are: ntload.dll, iasv32.dll, and notepad.dll. Upon a second try, notepad.dll was deleted but mswinsck.ocx reamins instead.

Here's what I'm thinking: Can I make a boot disk for DOS out of my USB flash drive? That way I can just hunt down and delete these files myself.

Any other advice would be great.

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.

    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:

    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this aother user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    OK.

Here are all the requested logs save combofix. Combofix will not run because it suspects I am infected with Virut, which is indeed true, as I found out earlier today.

I have been picking away at this since yesterday. I made significant progress, but all the stuff that comes up through SASW and MALB remains the issue. I am able to have both programs come up clean if I run them once and then reboot but stay disconnected from the internet. Once I connect, it all comes back.

And yes, I indeed have Virut and I don't believe that's 100% gone either. AVG detected it in whitelisted files and I am unsure if they were cleaned.

    Your newfiles log is empty.

    Please do this first:
Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT). Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

Now use windows explorer to find and delete:
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\mszaenvv.dll

    What exactly did Combo report?

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\MGlogs.zip

According to AVG pretty much every .exe on my computer is infected with the Virut virus. ComboFix must have gotten infected when I downloade dit so it refuses to run. It specifically says something about its integrity being comprimsed and says "you may have the virut virus"

Notepad is broken, so if you tell me what to edit in the registry manually I can do that.

Things aren't looking so great. Pretty much staring down the barrel of a reformat. If I have AVG remove everything that's infected, I'm left with a shell of an OS. Barely functions.

Sorry to give you the bad news but you will have to do a total clean reinstall.

I can see the reason for your problems. Your logs show that your Windows Operating system files have become infected by a Virut infection and there is no known reliable fix for this. In addition there are many many other infected files. We could spend a lot of time trying to remove this infection, but odds are that it will not work because the nature of the infection has so many executable system files infected that as soon as we fix one file, other files that are infected will almost immediately or upon the next reboot, just reinfect the files. In addition, your PC would still basically be unreliable/untrustworthy even if we manage to fix the infected files that we can see since there could be many more that we are not seeing.

The safest thing for you to do is backup your personal data immediately since your PC could possibly become unbootable at any point in time. Do not back up any executable files. This includes programs that you have downloaded since any of them could be infected. Anything you may have already backed up that is an executable type file (things you downloaded to install programs....etc) are most likely infected and will cause you to be reinfected if you reuse these files.

Once you backup, you need to format partitions and reinstall Windows and all other software especially your protection software. Then install all updates for all software. DO NOT reinstall from any executable file backups you made while this PC was infected or you will just be reinstalling the infection.
