    My husband clicked on a link within a Craig's List ad and aquired a nasty Trojan... I've been searching for fixes but haven't had much luck. I need help, pretty please!

    I've done the Combofix route but it keeps coming back on reboot. Here is my most recent Malwarebytes log, I get this every time the computer reboots even though it says it's been successfully deleted. Any advice??? TIA!!!

    HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Please read ALL of this message including the notes before doing anything.

    Pleases follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual updates for SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, ComboFix and MGtools on the infected account as requested in the instructions.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:
    Any additional post is a bump which will add more delay. Once you attach the logs, your thread will be in the work queue and as stated our system works the oldest threads FIRST.

    Thank you for the quick response.

    See my attached logs, nothing is overtly wrong with my computer but after rebooting and running Malwarebytes again, the trojan remains - I've attached both logs.

    Also, for what it's worth, SpyBot keeps informing me that ctfmon.exe is trying to do something upon booting as well.

    Thank you again for all your help!

    You are using two anti virus as shown below. This can cause numerous problems. You must uninstall one of them immediately now!
    • Microsoft Security Essentials
    • Trend Micro AntiVirus
    Not malware ;) It's legit and discussions on whether it gets to run at start up or not can take place in the software forum as I only have time for malware removal here.

    On the subject of SpyBot S&D I need to point out to you that you need to kill it's teatimer function whilst I am removing malware for you as it can interfere. Do this right now before we continue.

    How to disable Spybot's TeaTimer

    Please go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall the following software:

    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 10
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 2
    • J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 9
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 15
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 3
    • Java(TM) 6 Update 7

    IMPORTANT:
    Did you set this restriction yourself? If not then please fix it:

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:
    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    c:\windows\DCEBoot.exe
    c:\windows\Vxefagif.dat
    c:\windows\Kwicalevetecofir.bin
    C:\WINDOWS\system32\557B6A
    C:\DOCUME~1\OWNER~1.YOU\LOCALS~1\Temp\bh2hguz0wn27rv.exe

    DirLook::
    c:\documents and settings\Owner.YOUR-D3D3F0FEB8\Local Settings\Application Data\{6FFF5D99-0FD6-4C45-B995-5755796B2FAB}

    Folder::
    c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\Viewpoint

    Registry::
    [-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\sdr8gdrgdrgke49orkgsjkjfjhsd]
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run\AutorunsDisabled]
    "sdr8gdrgdrgke49orkgsjkjfjhsd"=-

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Tell me how things are running now!

    Thanks.
    Kes13!

    Lisa G Private E-2

    I attempted to do everything you asked but it's still here...

    Java update 15 would not uninstall from add/remove programs but the rest did. I followed you directions on all the other stuff and that all seemed to work but when I rebooted and ran another Malwarebytes scan it showed up again...

    See logs.

    Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

    Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
    to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Now download The Avenger by Swandog469, and save it to your Desktop.

    • Extract avenger.exe from the Zip file and save it to your desktop
    • Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    • Do not change any check box options!!
    • Copy everything in the Quote box below, and paste it into the Input script here: part of the window:
    • Now click the Execute button.
    • Click Yes to the prompt to confirm you want to execute.
    • Click Yes to the Reboot now? question that will appear when Avenger finishes running.
    • Your PC should reboot, if not, reboot it yourself.
    • A log file from Avenger will be produced at C:\avenger.txt and it will popup for you to view when you login after reboot.

    Still there?

    Please download GMER and save it to your desktop:

    * Unzip (extract) it to your desktop.
    * Disconnect from Internet and close all running programs.
    * There is a small chance this application may crash your computer so save any work you have open.
    * Double-click gmer.exe to run it.
    * Let the gmer.sys driver to load if asked.
    * If it gives you a warning at program start about rootkit activity and asks if you want to run a scan... click NO.
    * Click the Rootkit tab.
    * Make sure all the boxes on the right of the screen are checked, EXCEPT for "Show All".
    * Then click the Scan button. Wait for the scan to finish.
    * Once done, click the Copy button.
    * This will copy the results to the clipboard. Open Notepad and press CTRL + V to paste the log, and save it to your desktop. Attach this log to your next reply.

    NOTE: If you're having problems with running gmer.exe, try it in Safe Mode. This tool works in Safe Mode whereas many other rootkit revealers do not.

    Thanks so much for your continued help!

    I did the first step and did get a successful message.

    It appears that geekstogo.com is down though, I keep getting an error message when I click the link. I'll keep trying periodically unless I hear something different from you.

    THANKS!!!

    Hmm let's try this:

    Download and run OTM.

    Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.

    Code:
    :files
    c:\docume~1\OWNER~1.YOU\LOCALS~1\Temp\bh2hguz0wn27rv.exe
    C:\Documents and Settings\Owner.YOUR-D3D3F0FEB8\Local Settings\TEMP\bh2hguz0wn27rv.exe

    :reg
    [HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run]
    "sdr8gdrgdrgke49orkgsjkjfjhsd"=-

    :Commands
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it into notepad, save it as something appropriate and attach it into your next reply.

    NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

    Next....

    Also delete all files in the below bold folders except ones from the current date (Windows will not let you delete the files from the current day).

    Now Run Ccleaner!

    Run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Has any of this made a dent in that or what? *Fingers crossed*

    Still there...

    I wasn't able to run OTM as administrator, we don't have our computer set up like that - no password so it wouldn't let me proceed. I did run it as owner though.

    Please Disable Spybot's TeaTimer --> Should have been done as per the R&R instructions!

    * Run Spybot and click Mode
    * Select Advanced Mode.
    * Then click Tools and select Resident.
    * Now in the right window pane, uncheck TeaTimer.
    * Also while this is open, in the left column now select IE Tweaks
    * and then in the right pane make sure all the Miscellaneous locks are unchecked.
    * Now quit Spybot!

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

    Now copy just the bold text below to notepad (Do not include any space above the word REGEDIT).

    * Run avenger.exe by double-clicking on it.
    * -Do not change any check box options!!

    * Now click the Execute button.

    Now run Ccleaner!

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator).

    Then attach the below logs:

    * C:\Avenger.txt
    * C:\MGlogs.zip

    Make sure you tell me how things are working now!

    I did receive a successful message, however, when rebooting after running Avenger I received this error message:

    Windows - No Disk
    Exception Processing Message c0000013 Parameters 75b6bfc 4 75b6bf7c 75b6bf7c

    I'll reboot again and run MBAM and see if this does the trick. Thanks!

    Looks good!!

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
