    Hi,
A couple of days ago, I noticed that all my network drives connected to my HP file server were not working. After deleting all the drives, restarting the file server and restarting the router, it worked normally again.
The following day, McAfee disabled itself automatically and wouldn't come up and by the evening, my computer stopped responding and wouldn't respond in normal boot mode. It only worked in Safe mode.
I followed your Read and Run me first malware removal guide. I am attaching all the logs for the same. Since mine is a 64 bit Window 7, I did not run RootRepeal.

I had to run all the malware removal tools only in Safe mode as Windows 7 (task manager, browsers, Mcafee) kept hanging in Normal boot up mode.

Also, please note that while running ComboFix.exe, I did in fact disable McAfee, but for some reason ComboFix did not detect that correctly and kept prompting me that it was still on. I have McAfee Internet Security.

I just finished all the tools and restarted the PC in normal mode. Now there is no more freezing, however McAfee is still turning off and is currently off.

Can some one please look at the logs and let me know if indeed there was a malware that was causing this and if that has been successfully removed? Also I am still at a loss why McAfee realtime scanning would not turn on?

    Thanks,
    Kunal

Update: Unfortunately, the problem still remains, after a second reboot, computer froze again after a few minutes.

    Thanks,
    Kunal

Hi and welcome to Major Geeks, kunal999!

I am thinking this is more likely a hardware issue but let's run a couple more scans:

[IMG] I want you to read and follow these instructions: TDSSKiller - How to run

[IMG] Please download RogueKiller to your desktop.

Double-click RogueKiller.exe to run. (Vista/7 right-click and select Run as Administrator)
When it opens, press the Scan button
When it is finished, there will be a log on your desktop called: RKreport[1].txt
Attach RKreport[1].txt to your next message. (How to attach)

Thanks thisisu!! I really appreciate your response.
I ran both TDSSKiller and RogueKiller as described in Safe mode. I have attached the log files.

These logs are clean too. This does not appear to be a malware problem. I would recommend checking on your hardware. A bad hard drive, memory stick (RAM), video card, power supply, and/or motherboard would explain these random freezes you are experiencing. This is not the scope of this forum so if you would like additional assistance, please post in the Hardware forum.

[IMG] Before you go, you should uninstall the following from Programs and Features.
    • Conduit Engine

I would also recommend completely uninstalling and reinstalling McAfee as you are receiving a lot of errors in the Event logs regarding this software. Download and run the removing tool: MCPR.exe

Then you may complete the below cleanup steps:

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis if it present
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work through the below link:
    Be safe :)
