    Re: please help virus detected

I also just ran Panda scan and Avast came up with Kuang2 virus while it was trying to install Panda. I just stopped it.

Should I not run the Panda scan then? Or what should I do? Guess I got confused with these other posts about it.
    Thanks
    Gal

I am running Windows XP Home. I have restore on.

This is a very old thread gal. Nonetheless, as your problem is related, I am going to move it over to the spyware forum so that you receive the best advice.

Thanks. I did a search, came up with this thread, and decided to use it instead of starting new one.

    Gal,

I like to keep everyone in their own thread (even if problems are related) . It just helps us to avoid confusion in this outrageously busy forum. So I split you off into your own thread. For reference, you originally posted in: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=30465

I think it would be a good idea for you to work thru our cleanup procedures as given below. If you still have problems at the end, post the HijackThis log as request and tell me any specific filenames and paths that your scans are detecting.

    - Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

    - Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

    Thanks chas for the info.

First of all, when I boot to safe mode, I cannot connect to the internet. Never have been able to, so online scans were done in regular mode.
Adaware--found 2. got rid of them. not serious
    Spybot--nothing found
    Trend Micro--nothing found
    Symantec --safe
Panda--this is where when I am trying to download this, my Avast finds the virus and stops it.
    Stinger--clean

I am attaching Hijack. I did have everything closed, but I see it shows Explorer. I normally use Firefox, but had to use IE to do some of the scans.

    Thanks for looking at it.

Your log is clean. What you are having a problem with is not a virus problem but rather Avast is detecting the signature that Panda itself uses to detect the virus. This is really a false positive. If Panda had encrypted their file like most others do, this probably would not be happening.

Check the below out for more info:

Thanks so much Chaslang. You do not receive enough credit for all the help you give everyone.

I have been on here for a little while and am trying to learn, but I'll never be as knowledgable as you.[IMG]

    Keep up the good work
