    Hello again. :)
First, I'd like to let you know that this is my co-worker's office computer, and since I'm not a professional IT person, I chose to skip running ComboFix because of it's warnings of harming the computer, or making it not function properly. I hope that doesn't cause too much trouble. Please let me know later if I really must do this. (Our IT guy is on vacation in another state and my co-worker is unable to work at this PC).

I am familiar with your site and ran MBAM and SAS over the weekend and on Friday. I will post the most recent logs here. (Today is Monday and the PC hasn't been used since.)

    What happened:
Last Thursday she had a problem where IE kept closing suddenly. Then whenever she was trying to use a legal program (Legal Solutions), it would keep freezing. Eventually, she was unable to even work at this PC.

My first scan from her Norton found something called a Trojan maljava. It claims it removed the file. Additional scans found MyFunWeb something (I apologize for not getting the full name) and Pup.FunWeb Products. And this morning, Norton says it has blocked a downloader.

Again, I apologize for not being able to follow the directions perfectly - I really can't be responsible for breaking an office PC! I also apologize for not knowing how to open the RootRepeal software to run it. I have had to download all programs onto CDs then install them on her PC, as her internet refused to stay open long enough to download anything. Many of my scans were run in SAFE MODE. This PC says it cannnot open it (.rar) and we don't have WinZip or anything, so I am very unsure how to use it???? I thought I could right-click on it and have Windows XP open it. Guess not. :confused

I will post my logs now. :)

I am going to need more info that what was in those logs. Please run ComboFix and attach that log.

    Also:
Go to the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky

Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon [IMG]

    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

I was very hesitant to run ComboFix on an office PC for fear of doing something wrong and ruining an office PC, but since you say it's necessary, I will give it at try. Will post logs soon.

Thank you for your prompt reply, Tim! :)

I am not finding any malware in your logs. The FunWeb items were in your system restore files and not really an issue if you toggle system restore. However, I wouldn't do that yet as you may need to do a system restore to fix what system issues you are having.

Thank you. Her system APPEARS to be running better now. Our calendaring program (Amicus 2010) kept freezing and closing this morning. So I suppose it's possible that the previous scans finally removed the malware? I now have clear logs from MBAM and SAS as well. Should I restart her system and see how things run now?

Yes, restart and see if they are running well. If all is good, then you can toggle system restore and create a new restore point. Let me know. ;)

Well, so far so good. I will have her work in the calendaring program for a bit to see how that goes. In the meantime, seems she is having problems loading the GOOGLE page properly? Do you know if this is related to her other problems she was having? Our other PCs are loading GOOGLE fine...

Here's a screenshot. (And I'll keep you posted on how her PC is functioning after this.)

Is she having the same issue with other browsers such as FireFox?

She doesn't have Firefox (which I much prefer), but I can install it if you'd like.

    EDIT:

She also just informed me that she is getting the following error in a pop-up.

    "Message from webpage
    Stack overflow at line: 0"

She was at www.slate.com She hadn't tried other webpages yet...Google still isn't right.

Google appears normal on Firefox. (However, Firefox is telling my the version I just downloaded (5.0.1, I think it was) is out-of-date, and is trying to get me to install the latest 7.0.1 version.)

Then I suggest you post in the software forum as your issue must be with IE. You can try uninstalling it and downloading Ver.8 to see if that helps.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:

    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no real time protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.We recommend them for doing backup scans when you suspect a malware infection.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.

    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.

    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Malware removal from a National Chain = $149
Malware removal from MajorGeeks = $0

Thank you so much, Tim. I really appreciate your help. Her IE is running slowly and still having those other problems, so I will post in the other forum now, and will refrain from doing the final steps until I know her PC is running clean.

Thanks for your patience withe me! See ya on Facebook. ;) Love my GE/EK wear!!
