    Hi

    Over last few days my PC has started playing up, firefox takes forever to open pages, and will sometimes stops responding before closing. Even opening folders can take a while to load and will also sometimes crash. After scanning the PC with Avast, the screen went blue and windows stated that it was running in a safe mode, it found over 100 rootkits which could not be repaired, only deleted. The next day error messages starting appearing after windows loaded saying that various .dll files were missing. Presumably having been infected with the rootkits and then being deleted with Avast. I have rescanned the computer since then with no improvement. Avast found 72 more rootkits and also Nero files which "could not be scanned". I started searching for a solution and came across this website. I have completed the "READ & RUN ME FIRST Malware Removal Guide (incl. spyware, virus, trojan, hijacker)" and completed the steps up to the point where it said to post the log files from the various tests to this website. I have attached them to this post and would be very grateful if someone could have a look and hopefully have a suggestion as to what might be wrong as my PC is still running very slowly.

    Dear Kestrel13,

    I ran TDSSkiller (log attatched) which found no rootkit.

    Over the past few days my PC has been running much more smoothly and faster.

    Thank you very much for all your help so far.

    best regards

    Anniella

    Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

    Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.mywebsearch.com/mywebsearch/default.jhtml?ptnrS=GRfox000&ptb=vh.v_rlJUgBPP1CG2albRQ

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

    Now we need to use ComboFix
    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    Folder::
    c:\programdata\FileCure
    c:\program files (x86)\ParetoLogic
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{44722DB9-8550-42BB-B1DA-00FC5CE172C9}
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{83200FE7-95CD-44AE-9B5E-602B9A064F2C}
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{8E12967E-07DF-4EC4-81AA-7A62920CBE6A}
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{A8994282-6D07-46A5-8A71-0955D5770B89}
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{C8314C98-591C-47A9-8F2E-C5B50D7CD419}
    C:\Users\anni\AppData\Local\{E05D64C3-C8C4-4FEA-8F0A-6647E9A8673F}

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

      [IMG]

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

    Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

    If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

    Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

    Dear Kestrel13,

    I did as you advised and ran MGtools/analyse.exe and did a "system scan only".

    I could not find:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://search.mywebsearch.com/mywebs...UgBPP1CG2albRQ

    Although I can see:

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page =

    Without the "mywebsearch" link. Shall I "Fix" this file or should I continue on by running Combofix. I have attached the log of the analysis so you can see for yourself.

    I'm sorry to bother you again but I though it better to be sure of what I am doing rather than risk damaging the computer.

    Yours sincerely,

    Anniella

    If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
      related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
        for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
