I just tried to run a full-system scan with Avast in Safe Mode, and the scan couldn't execute.

    I got this message:

"No more endpoints available from the endpoint mapper"...

What the Devil does THAT mean?

Unfortunately, I couldn't even invoke Avast to run in regular mode, along with a number of
other utilities, like Antimalwarebytes and CC Cleaner...

Meanwhile, Shockwave Flash crashes every time I use Firefox.

Don't know what the Hell is going on with my OS....

Sorry about that--meant to post my OS earlier.

    I'm running under Windows 7, 32-bit.

Cant't start Belarc Advisor, or Antimalwarebytes, either.

I suspect you mean malwarebytes, not antimalwarebytes. If your av and malware detector programs do not work, it could very well mean that you are infected.

    Read this first
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index....ide-incl-spyware-virus-trojan-hijacker.35407/

when you have downloaded and run or tried to run the MGTools, create a new thread here
    http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php?forums/malware-removal.35/
One of the experts will look at the logs and either help you clean up your computer or tell you that malware doesn't seem to be the issue.

In either case, when you finish in the malware section, post back in this thread. You will either be working well or need other help.

Thanks! I'll tackle this later today, after doing a back-up.

Unfortunately, MGTools may not be an option, because NONE of my utility programs will run when invoked--unless MGTools can be run in Safe Mode...?

Can a malware / virus diagnostic be run remotely from Major Geeks?

Yes - however you know that startup processes and services loaded will be limited. That may hide the existence of some malware, but it's a starting point.
    No

Also please try to run ALL of the tools (in Safe Mode if necessary) and upload the resulting logs in the Malware Removal forum.

Look in the Malwarebytes folder for a file named Chameleon. It looks like a help (.chm) file.
Double-click it. Then follow the instructions.

System Restore done, same problems as yesterday. System was working fine day picked for Restore point (8/8/16).

OS won't let me perform a backup in regular mode - Can I do a backup in Safe Mode?

I'm loathe to run MGTools without doing a backup first.

I double-clicked Chameleon, and followed the instructions. I got "Tested" from clicking all the boxes, but
    no black command-prompt box appeared.

While you wait for a Windows 10 user to answer your question, be aware that running MGTools.exe only does diagnostic reporting. No action related to malware removal is performed.

OK, but my own OS is Windows 7.

Will be checking in tomorrow. Family matters to deal with now. Thanks.

Cheez, I've been online too long! I have not found that you can backup while in safe mode.

*Why not use the info found one-half down this page in the section called " Copying files and folders to external hard disk or USB flash drive with Puppy Linux " as a guide to what is commonly backed up using Puppy Linux, for example?

When I booted into Safe Mode a few minutes ago, the OS informed me that the System Restore I did yesterday didn't take, most likely because of an AV program running in the background...

So I did a System Restore in Safe Mode, and after boot-up, Avast & Malwarebytes functioned OK; neither
    of them found any problems.

But I'm going to do a Backup today, and probably later try MGTools.

Well, my AV & Malwarebytes just froze up again...

And booting into Safe Mode, the system told me my latest System Restore (two days ago) didn't take. So, I did another SR in SM and the system informed me the operation was complete--what to believe?

So, it's Back to Square One--and on to MGTools, for sure!

Note: Safe Mode System Restore failure message today gave this Error Message code:

Roger that. Latest System Restore seemed to have taken, as there was no error message today
when I booted into Safe Mode...

I'm going away until Friday, so I won't be able to run the MGTools until then. Please bear with me. I appreciate all the help I'm getting, and I want to nail this demonic malfunction, once and for all.

    Thanks again!
