    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I don't know what you mean. This is your first and only post.

You need to attach the logs from SUPERAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, and MGtools.

    What program is reporing >> Trojan.Vundo, Exploit.Java.CVE-2010-0840

Sorry about that, looks like my first post didn't upload/work??!?!?! I can't remember what I'd said but the following is a summary of my problem: -

Girlfriends laptop is crawling and cannot access anything without it taking forever. Did a full scan with Kapsersky Internet Security 11.0.1.400 which took 9 hours......... yes 9 hours! This suddenly detected Exploit.Java.CVE-2010-0840.ds. along with MyWebSearch type of adware.

I followed your READ ME,RUN ME info and downloaded each of the tools/programs as per the list. These have all been run and hightlighted Tronjan.Vundo on one of the scans, think it was SuperAntispyware which spotted that one.

Still after all these checks the system is running too slow compared to the usual speed. The laptop in question is a Compaq Presario V650 running 2GB memory and 160GB H/D of which 92GB is free.

I've opened task manager and AVP.EXE is constantly using system resource at approx 60-70% and doesn't settle down. The 3 oustanding logs are attached, the remaining 2 are in my other post. ** part 2 which turned out to be part 1 ;) because my first original post didn't work **

Just wondering if you can help and confirm if the logs highlight any other issues? I've since uninstalled some HP printer software and Samsung PC suite relating to a mobile phone just to clear off some old programs.

    Hope you can help.

    Thanks

    PG

    You're welcome.

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan. There will be two options to choose from. One if you do not have your Windows 7 boot DVD and another when you have your DVD.

For x32 (x86) bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For x64 bit systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Option1: Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.
Option2: Enter System Recovery Options by using Windows installation disc:
    • Insert the installation disc.
    • Restart your computer.
    • If prompted, press any key to start Windows from the installation disc. If your computer is not configured to start from a CD or DVD, check your BIOS settings.
    • Click Repair your computer.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account and click Next.
On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

Goto the below link and follow the instructions for running TDSSKiller from Kaspersky
    • Be sure to attach your log from TDSSKiller
Now please also download MBRCheck to your desktop.

See the download links under this icon [IMG]
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.
    • Attach this log to your next message. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Make sure you have attach all three of the logs I requested above.

    Hi.........

Thanks again for the prompt answer!

I've hit a snag in that the *Repair your computer* menu item isn't there within the Advanced Boot Options and unfortunately I don't have any discs either.

Bought this laptop of ebay a few years ago for my missus and someone recently said in the last few days that it could have a dodgy copy of windows as I mentioned the Authenticity Microsoft thingy has flashed up a number of times although when going through the motions to check this everything then carried on as normal (this hasn't happened for ages though). Sorry for not mentioning this in the beginning if it makes any difference?

Do I need to obtain a Vista rescue disc from somebody before I do anything else?

    Thanks

    PG :-o

Yes it does as we really cannot support illegal copies of Windows and problems you are having could be related to that.

Uninstall Kaspersky's AVP and see if your performance problem goes away.

    Hi..........

Really appreciate your help and replies.

Really sorry, I wasn't aware this was not legit cpy of windows although how can I be sure ???? the laptop has worked fine for ages and the windows authentication hasn't happended for over 18 months. As I say, this has worked fine and updated when asked so I've never had any inclination that there was an issue. Besides, this is my GF's laptop and I hardly use it but she's not complained of issues apart from the recent Trojan detections.

It's still running slow despite removing Kasperskey, does seem a little better but takes forever to shut down. I've ran the tools as per your last post and the logs are attached.

Hoping you can check to confrm if any issues.

Also, is there a way of being certain of the authenticity as I would like to complain somehow to Ebay as the original add declared the laptop as being genuine vista.......

    Thanks

These last logs are clean. So the initial scans appear to have removed your malware. Are you actually still having any malware symptoms? The slowness does not necessarily mean it is malware and neither does long shutdown intervals.

Please explain what operations are slow! For example answer the below:
    • Is boot up slow?
    • Is shutdown slow?
    • Is browsing/surfing slow? If yes, also answer the below sub-questions
      • What type of connection to the internet do you use ( DSL, Cable, FIOS,etc)?
      • What browser are you using? Have tried more than one?
    • Is downloading slow?
    • Is running any/every application?
    • Is it also slow in safe boot mode?
    • Also are any processes showing in Task Manager to be using a lot of CPU time?
    • Anything else slow?

Try going to Windows Update to see if you can find out. If this version is not genuine or there is an issue with multiple people having activated this activation code, you should be able to find out thru the Windows Genuine Advantage package that will have to be installed if not already installed.

Also one quick thing to do is click Start, and right click on Computer and select Properies This will bring up a system information window. Scroll down to the bottom to see the Windows activation section and see if it shows your Windows is activated and also it should list the Product ID:

    Hi.....

Been away hence the delayed reply but wanted again to say how much I appreciate your help - this site is amazing!!!!!!!

Everything seems okay now, I'd reinstalled my HP printer software and this seems to be causing some issues so it's been removed and seems okay.

Checked the windows update and activation thing and it's genuine and the windows is activated so must just be the fact the laptops old and needs wiping/cleaning up. The initial issues were trojan related but so far since the above has been sorted it's fine.

Once again thanks for your help.

    Can't recommend this site enough.

    Cheers

    You're welcome.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 oof the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista or Win 7, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
