So one of my siblings has done it again. She did well fixing it on her own, but as she surfs the web downloading everything she see's it is very hard to for her to fix all the problems.

I am a little stumped on this one. She has what appears to be win 7 antispyware 2012. The window just keeps popping up and stopping the opening everything I click on. I just can't get a single program to run. I have been through the MalWare removal guide several times over the years, but this one has stumped me. I even tried it in safe mode with both networking and no networking.

Any advice? Keep in mind the reason there is no logs is that I can't get any logs as nothing will open.

    Try the below:

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop on the PC with the infection.

    • Open up this newly created folder and then open the "files" folder (...\windows repair v1.5.7\files)
    • From here, locate the fix_exe_hijack.inf file and then Right-mouse click it one time, then choose "Install".
    • Once you have done this, you should now be able to open applications again.
    • Let me know if that helped, can you now get through the read and run me first?

I was able to run all the scans. Strang though, after I ran the combo fix scan I could not find a log of it in the QooBox folder. Here is what I have so far. I seem to have either deleted a bunch of essential computer programs, or the malware did that, but I keep getting pop ups telling me I'm missing this or that, a bunch of stuff with names I can't remember. They only showed up after the scans, so I don't think it is malware. pretty darn sure I deleted a lot of stuff I shouldn't have.

Download a fresh version of Combofix, let it overwrite the old copy. (I think you actually deleted your old copy, though) It needs to be directly on the desktop, the file itself, NOT a shortcut to it. :)

    Java(TM) 6 Update 24
    <--- uninstall outdated Java.

Please disable all anti-virus and anti-spyware programs while we do the following (re-enable when you are finished):

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it (Note: if using Vista, don't double click, use right click and select Run As Administrator). This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    After clicking Fix exit HJT.

Now we need to use ComboFix by sUBs

    • Make sure that combofix.exe that you downloaded while doing the READ & RUN ME is on your Desktop but Do not run it!
      • If it is not on your Desktop, the below will not work.
    • Also make sure you have shut down all protection software (antivirus, antispyware...etc) or they may get in the way of allowing ComboFix to run properly.
    • If ComboFix tells you it needs to update to a new version, make sure you allow it to update.
    • Open Notepad and copy/paste the text in the below quote box. Ensure you scroll down to select ALL the lines:
    Code:
    KILLALL::

    File::
    C:\Users\Jen\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\0k23om0f05f343
    C:\Users\Jen\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\156841k5h625f248c287f0gyj7v0
    C:\Users\Jen\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\6i1mkx012yag236s25fv2d5mm31gcr2a7o2y12xc237sf
    C:\Users\Jen\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Templates\t62qk26kuya2g28hem4tjxln34216aeuj
    C:\ProgramData\0k23om0f05f343
    C:\ProgramData\1177585087
    C:\ProgramData\156841k5h625f248c287f0gyj7v0
    C:\ProgramData\1G38k5jm.dat
    C:\ProgramData\6i1mkx012yag236s25fv2d5mm31gcr2a7o2y12xc237sf
    C:\ProgramData\781282f4y341m488x727r1iou1f7
    C:\ProgramData\aaf36a7a
    C:\ProgramData\t62qk26kuya2g28hem4tjxln34216aeuj
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_32\Desktop.ini
    C:\Windows\assembly\GAC_64\Desktop.ini
    C:\Windows\TEMP\gdfyghret.exe
    C:\Windows\TEMP\tue0.39290883384459807.exe
    C:\Windows\TEMP\tue0.3996409897204385.exe

    Folder::
    C:\Windows\assembly\temp\U

    • Save the above as CFscript.txt and make sure you save it to the same location (should be on your Desktop) as ComboFix.exe
    • At this point, you MUST EXIT ALL BROWSERS NOW before continuing!
    • You should have both the ComboFix.exe and CFScript.txt icons on your Desktop.
    • Now use your mouse to drag CFscript.txt on top of ComboFix.exe

    • Follow the prompts.
    • When it finishes, a log will be produced named c:\combofix.txt
    • I will ask for this log below

    Note:

Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it is running. That may cause it to stall.

If after running Combofix you discover none of your programs will open up, and you recieve the following error: "Illegal operation attempted on a registry key that has been marked for deletion". Then the answer is to REBOOT the machine, and all will be corrected.

I want you to run TDSSKiller so refer to the below for how to do so.

    TDSSkiller - How to run

Please also download MBRCheck to your desktop
    • Double click MBRCheck.exe to run (vista and Win 7 right click and select Run as Administrator)
    • It will show a Black screen with some information that will contain either the below line if no problem is found:
      • Done! Press ENTER to exit...
    • Or you will see more information like below if a problem is found:
      • Found non-standard or infected MBR.
      • Enter 'Y' and hit ENTER for more options, or 'N' to exit:
    • Either way, just choose to exit the program at this point since we want to see only the scan results to begin with.
    • MBRCheck will create a log named similar to MBRCheck_07.16.10_00.32.33.txt which is random based on date and time.

Reboot your machine and install the most current and up to date version of Java available here at the below link:

    Java Runtime 6

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. (Right click and run as admin if using Vista or Windows7) Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now!

    Yes, still more to do...

You need to re-run TDSSKiller and have it cure, quarantine or delete these two below that it's hitting on.

    Attach the new log please.

    Download and run OTM.

Download OTM by Old Timer and save it to your Desktop.

    • Right-click OTM.exe And select " Run as administrator " to run it.
    • Paste the following code under the [IMG] area. Do not include the word Code.

    Code:
    :Files

    [Reboot]
    • Return to OTM, right click in the Paste List of Files/Folders to Move window (under the yellow bar) and choose Paste.
    • Push the large [IMG] button.
    • OTM may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
    • Copy everything in the Results window (under the green bar), and paste it in your next reply.

NOTE: If you are unable to copy/paste from this window (as will be the case if the machine was rebooted), open Notepad (Start->All Programs->Accessories->Notepad), click File->Open, in the File Name box enter *.log and press the Enter key, navigate to the C:\_OTM\MovedFiles folder, and open the newest .log file present, and copy/paste the contents of that document back here in your next post.

Now run the C:\MGtools\GetLogs.bat file by double clicking on it. Then attach the new C:\MGlogs.zip file that will be created by running this.

Sorry, it's being used. I told her to deal with next time. It runs clean enough for a while that is. Thanks for the help.

Yeah, she stole it back from me. I removed everything I could and she got ansi. She is old enough now, I will make her go through this process by herself next time. I already showed her how to work with the forums. Really how hard can it be to teach someone how to ask someone else how to do something. It is laziness at it's finest.

Thanks for all the help. I stopped having any pop ups or anything else on the computer, just kept getting a few malware reports, but no sign of them doing anything. So better than when she gave it to me.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:
