reading numerous threads/articles/posts and viewing 'tubes, there is a lot of confused advice out there about making an install DVD of Lion, with which one can boot [in my case a qualified iMAC] and install to HDD on the target Mac.
Some refer to an apple-blessed "Lion Diskmaker" applet, but most use other tools to fetch/isolate the .dmg, then burn it to disc/dvd. Reading the feedback on some of these [that offer such] is unsurprisingly inconclusive - some work, some don't. anyone know the certain path to this: - using a healthy apple device like a macbook to burn the disc?? - using a healthy PC to burn the disc? I'm on my second experiment here shortly - the first was done by a friend on a macbook and it failed. Not sure why. The 2nd done under Win7 Ultimate using imgburn with an iso that was converted from the *.dmg and confirmed by some to 'work'... we'll be on the same topic shortly as Mountain Lion gets released ![]() |

In the past i have never had a problem with burning osx copies with disk ulity for mac, but now adays im not sure thats gonna work well. I have never had good luck burning copies of osx or even os 9 on pc though, could never really figure it out. I really hate to post links like this but i know the other day i saw a tip on here for making lion discs, http://hints.macworld.com/ But i can't seem to find it today, hopefuly you can come up with the right search terms, good luck.

speaking of reluctance to post link... I used all the tools in my bag to inspect the dvd that was given me and am STILL not sure it had the image even on there, so I took a chance on a torrent of a conversion-to-iso that had all favorable comments on it. burned it on my win7 mule using imgburn, and it worked. voila'.... I'd call that sheer dumb luck. put it in the imac and fired it off, used disk utility to create one big extended mac partition and the install went fine.
i'm a little surprised at some of the bugginess I've seen in Lion, after all this time. after sucking down a HUGE wad of updates, it still had real shaky flash performance - I installed/reinstalled [not sure which] the latest flash for os x which apparently was not in the apple updates, and it seems to work. had the preferences applet freeze on me - had the clock/set/time/zone widget freeze... Anyway after a few restarts it seems pretty solid now. Mountain Lion just around the corner |
