    My computer kept saying windows not genuine. So I ran Malwarebytes and nothing showed up. I was using the free AVG virus software and my computer has been down since the first week on January.

    I ran Combofix about that time and then my Internet quit working. IE and Chrome don't work.

    I'm determined but struggling. Any advice appreciated. I've seen recommended to make sure proxy wasn't checked in LAN setting and it was not.

    When I got to setup Internet connect it says "Windows did not detect any networking hardware"

    Welcome to Major Geeks!

    Why did you run ComboFix to begin with and were you having problems with Windows 7 not genuine before running ComboFix? ComboFix is not something you should be deciding to run on your own.

    Windows not genuine is not caused by malware. It means your license was either not valid to begin with or the license info/files got deleted or corrupted. You may have to try using system restore or you may have to work this out with Microsoft that is assuming you have a valid license?

    Well I bought it from SAMs club and its got the genuine windows stickers on it.

    Yes, we'll someone recommended ComoFix and after reading this website I realized that it is something I shouldn't have done on my own

    Okay so it is a legal license. Have you tried a System Restore to see if that helps? Probably will not. If not, you will likely have to speak to Microsoft about getting this corrected. Sorry but this is not a malware problem.

    As far as the internet connection being down, System Restore may correct this. I can take a look to see if that is somehow related to malware, but you will need to follow the below instructions.

    Please follow the instructions in the below link:

    READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide

    and attach the requested logs when you finish these instructions.
    • **** If something does not run, write down the info to explain to us later but keep on going. ****
    • Do not assume that because one step does not work that they all will not. MGtools will frequently run even when all other tools will not.

    • After completing the READ & RUN ME and attaching your logs, make sure that you tell us what problems still remain ( if any still do )!
    Helpful Notes:

    1. If you run into problems trying to run the READ & RUN ME or any of the scans in normal boot mode, you can run the steps in safe boot mode but make sure you tell us what you did later when you post logs. See the below if you do not know how to boot in safe mode:
    2. If you have problems downloading on the problem PC, download the tools and the manual update Malwarebytes ( links are given in the READ & RUN ME) onto another PC and then burn to a CD. Then copy them to the problem PC. You will have to skip getting updates if (and only if) your internet connection does not work. Yes you could use a flash drive too but flash drives are writeable and infections can spread to them.
    3. If you cannot seem to login to an infected user account, try using a different user account (if you have one) in either normal or safe boot mode and running only RogueKiller and Malwarebytes while logged into this other user account. Then reboot and see if you can log into the problem user account. If you can then run the rest of the READ & RUN ME FIRST instructions on the infected account.
    4. To avoid additional delay in getting a response, it is strongly advised that after completing the READ & RUN ME you also read this sticky:

    I tried the system restore and it didn't appear to help. (still icons missing, black screen saying windows not genuine, and can't connect to the internet). As for the internet, I tried the proxy server deal and nothing. I was also unable to perform the CD Emulation disable. I don't have internet access so I had put everything on a flash drive and the one thing I missed was the "DeFogger"

    I ran the 5 things requested and attached the logs. RougeKiller seemed to be the only one that I saw RED writing or appeared to find something. MGtools I got an error on and it similar to one of the 4 errors but different wording about a .DLL. I tried to snap a picture but it went away.

    I was going to run it again, but it didn't say to do that in the steps so I figured I'd attached the zip log and would wait on instruction rather than screw something else up.

    By the time I got to MGtools the computer was running so slow it seemed it had crashed or hung up..... this was probably an hour into it running and hadn't moved in 15 minutes. It was 1:30 in the morning so I shut it down and reran it this morning and I assume that's what the logs are from. I'm sure I did that wrong but I wasn't sure what to do.

    You are not having malware problems. Your logs are clean. The problem with no internet is due to your DHCP sever not assigning your IP Address, your netmask and your default gateway. Per the below, they are setup how they would be if you were not talking to a router properly;
    Code:
    Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:
       Connection-specific DNS Suffix  . :
       Description . . . . . . . . . . . : NVIDIA nForce 10/100 Mbps Ethernet
       DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
       Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes
       Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::34f9:bf0f:1846:8708%11(Preferred)
       Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address. . : [B][COLOR=red]169.254.135.8(Preferred)[/COLOR][/B]
    [COLOR=red]   [COLOR=black]Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . :[/COLOR] 255.255.0.0
       [/COLOR][COLOR=black]Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . :[/COLOR]
    They are not correct and gateway has no value at all. Is your Router working and powered on? Is it setup to assign IP address (that is as a DHCP server )? Also make sure your cable to the router is not broken and also that it is not a cross over cable if your router cannot handle the crossover automatically.

    No luck with the new chord.
    From the best I can tell my machines Internet connection got wiped out. When I go to control panel and try to click "View Network status and task" I just get an error

    MMC cannot open the file C:\Windows\system32\devmgmt.msc.

    Is there a chance I got some kind of virus? I was able to pull all the stuff off I wanted. Would I be best off trying to just reboot the computer?

    I'm sorry but you are not having malware problems. Your logs are clean. You will have to post in the Software Forum or Networking Forum for help. My starting suggestion would be to get all of the McAfee and AVG software uninstalled to see if that helps. Also try shutting down your Windows Firewall to see what effect that has.
