Okay, I'll explain a little more. This site is a riddle. In order to get to the next page, you have to find the Username/Password located somewhere within the page. For the first page (the one that says Asia Awaits), look at the source code for the riddle...I have gotten past four of the pages, but it is VERY difficult.

The text when you view the source of the webpage says:

    Alexander cut me
    An oracle predicted me
    A future king tied me
Say my name to clear your path

This refers to teh Gordian Knot (interesting story by the way)

    Username: Alexander

So far for the next puzzle the ascii text reveals the following:
By holding down ALT and typing the numbers on the keypad in notepad this can be found.

    first grouping:
    On the Zuiderzee
    That old fishing sea,
    The Faeiries stole,
    The boys of Marken

    Second grouping:
The old name of the site of the boy's disappearance is the name of the place you must go.

But the third makes no sense to me:
    hebban olla vogala nestas hagunnan
    hinase hi(c) (e)nda thu
    uu(at) unbida(n) (uu)e nu

    Any ideas?

The license plate has this in the source:

The old name of the site of the boy's disappearnce is the name of the
    place you must go.

Okay, N5638J was correct on the truck page. For a little background, IJsselmeer is another name for Zuiderzee, the place where the boy drowned. For the next page, there is a sign with a tree. The user/password can be found on the lower right hand area of the sign when zoomed. (A hint is that a blank javascript window comes up when you mouse over the area). The user is Edith, password Head. Then you get to a popup with a building. Click the building to get to a page with several lights. The farthest light you can click on has username Kipper, password May. (If you want a reference: on one of the pages there is an ASCII code that lists a number. Googling this number reveals it is the ISBN number of a book: Dance, Dance, Dance. One of the main character's names is Kipper May...This one took me awhile to figure out!) That's about as far as I've gotten...Let me know if you can get further.

Clicked around on the image... about where license plate should be on the car.

Also, what about the other lights? Several bring up username/PW requests.

Yeah, this is where I'm stuck. I knew one other user/password combo, but I cant think of it right now. There are several branches from this point. I was reading on another forum (and I have been trying to not cheat) that the Audition, Death of a Salesman prompt is where it all leads, but I haven't figgered out that one yet.

  28. i_wanna_corndog

Okay, I found something new. Since I was using Firefox, it blocked the popup that occurs upon first loading the site. The popup appears and then disappears quickly and says "The Boy is Drowning". Disabling JavaScript so it wouldn't disappear, I checked the source and got this (excerpted):

//ENTER BELOW THE DATE YOU WISH TO COUNTDOWN TO
    later = new Date("Jun 6 2005 11:38:00");

    104 101 098 098 097 110 032 111 108 108 097 032 118 111 103 097 108 097 032 110 101 115 116 097 115 032 104 097 103 117 110 110 097 110 032 013 010 104 105 110 097 115 101 032 104 105 040 099 041 032 040 101 041 110 100 097 032 116 104 117 032 013 010 117 117 040 097 116 041 032 117 110 098 105 100 097 040 110 041 032 040 117 117 041 101 032 110 117

There is a timer counting down to June 6, 2005 and an ASCII code that I don't have time to decode. I'm off to work! Seems eerie!

    hebban olla vogala nestas hagunnan

    hinase hi(c) (e)nda thu

    uu(at) unbida(n) (uu)e nu

A little googling and I found that it's from a love poem, and means:

"All the birds have started their nests - except me and you. - What are we waiting for now?"

    Maybe a dead end. :(

    Checked out Wikipedia for Zuiderzee:

The 32 km long Afsluitdijk separates the IJsselmeer from the North Sea, protecting thousands of km² of land.

The Zuiderzee Works (Dutch: Zuiderzeewerken) is a man-made system of dams, land reclamation and water drainage works, and the largest hydraulic engineering project undertaken by the Netherlands during the twentieth century. The project involved the damming off of the Zuiderzee, a large, shallow inlet of the North Sea, and the reclamation of land in the newly enclosed water body by means of polders. Its main purpose was to improve flood protection and create additional land for agriculture.

    ...

The fifth polder does not yet exist and may never be completed. It had been the intention to start building the southwestern polder, known as the Markerwaard, at several points during the project, but other polders took precedence. Parts of it have in fact been built; in 1941 it was decided to begin work on the first section of dike, but the German occupiers stopped construction that same year. This dike originated on Marken, the last of the IJsselmeer islands, and went north for some 2 km where it ends abruptly today. After World War II, the eastern polder was chosen as the next project, but Marken was not wholly ignored; on October 17, 1957 a 3.5 km long dike was closed, running south of the now former island to the Holland mainland.

The answer is the name of the place of the boys disappearence.. I have no idea anyone disappearing, but you can guess it!

EDIT: Just realised this had been covered already. Darnit. I felt so smart until just now.

Ok, so on the Hide Your Sorrows page (the one after clicking on the last light and using Kipper May), I noticed a few things that I don't think have been mentioned here. In the code I found five comment tags; their contents, in order, are:

    wax
    A one armed skeleton
    I am the answer
    find me
    Not smart by half

Also, the text sequence only consists of the letters A-J and is repeated several times throughout the page. That letter sequence is:

BJDFI ECJHI HFFFI CGAII FBGHI FDGFI JDHGI IDDII DCCGI EEBJI JBHGI JHHII DEAHI AABII FBHGI AJIII JJBHI JAFCI HJBBI CHFCI FBCCI EGIBI FAJCI EAECI JDAEI DIECI JEEFI DAFEI HIDCI FAAFI DJHDI ECDDI FFEFI EIJEI BBIDI CCDGI JJJFI JAHEI DFIDI CJHEI BHGGI EGDGI DGAGI BHFEI JJHGI JIFFI JGFFI AJDEI BHAHI DFFHI JJDHI JECGI BHJHI FBHGI HDCFI JIGGI JFDII JAJGI BAJGI FJIGI HCEGI JEDHI DDEGI GFEHI JJHII CCBII JIHHI AAJHI FDDII HIFHI DDCII JEEII HGHII FHIII JICJI AIJHI JJJII GBEII JCHII CACA FBAA JHJII FGFJI EADJI JBAE CJJC JGAD IGJC DABE CHEJI HJHA ECCA JFHA CCBA HJIA EIGA JHEE BBDE JFHD FIGD FBGD EHHD DFBE JFBE JBDF JJIC JCCC AABF BDBD DDED BHIC JHJC JHCD CAFC JGIC IDID JJGD DHCD DHDE JJCE JDID EGFD FAAE FAIE JBAE DIAE JEHE FBDE DEDF BBBF DGGE JBDF DEGF IGJE JGBF CCAG JJHF EBFF HGGF CGCG JBBH JCEG FCCG GGGG BFDG EEHG JDGG IDIG BHBH CHCH FJCH JJAH JJFH JGEH HHHH DGFH JJFH AIAI FFAI DGBI HEEI JDEI JIDI GIGI FFJI GIA JAD CFC HEE FJE FJE JAG DCH DFH JGI JB DCI

And then it repeats 8 or 10 times.

I have tried replacing a-j with 1-0 and a-j with 0-9 and no ascii sense can be made of it. I'll keep digging...

  33. i_wanna_corndog

    i_wanna_corndog Specialist

You have tried 0-9 and 1-0, but maybe reversing it could make some sense, like doing 9-0, or 0-1...just an idea. I would try it, but I am waaaay too tired. :( maybe tomorrow...

  34. Publius

    Publius Sergeant

Yes, I tried both combinations that you mentioned and still can't make any ascii sense out of it. It appears that the game is becoming more complex the deeper we get, so this is probably something more difficult to solve... maybe an alphanumeric cipher, which could be extremely difficult.

Maybe the comments in the source was all the information we were supposed to get from this page and we should concentrate on combining this with the previous clues.

I looked at the code for the "A moth flew in..." page and there doesn't seem to be much, but there are a lot of status bar comments throughout the page.

"Youbettergo," urged the Sheepman. "Stayhere, you'llfreeze. Butifyouneedus, we'rehere. Youknowwheretofindus."

Just a little more insight, though I don't know how helpful this will be

what comes after we tire of chasing wild sheep -- The book Dance, Dance, Dance was written by Haruki Murakami who also wrote a book entitled Wild Sheep Chase

WALLS 1F DH WHEN DID THIS HAPPEN -- The DH might mean the Dolphin Hotel which is where the bulk of the story takes place.

Awesome work, Publius. I am still trying to decipher the big chunk of letters A-J...eek! Wow. I spent awhile with that code and was closer to the answer than I realized on my last post. Here's what I did: I replaced the letters with numbers, trying four combinations (a-1 thru j-0, a-0 thru j-9, j-1 thru a-0, and j-0 thru a-9). Once I had these four sets of numbers, I messed with them. I ended up reversing them completely, and the numbers seemed to get larger. I finally discovered that if you take each chunk of numbers and divide it by its position in the group, you come up with the answer. I don't know, it's kinda hard to explain. (I also discovered that the chunk "DCI" at the end didn't seem to belong...it didn't fit with my solution...??? no idea). Only the chunk of numbers with j-0 thru a-9 worked in ascii. Here's what I got for a translation:

    PARENTHESESWeshallextendtheempireofPersiasuchthatitsboundarieswillbeGodAPOSTRPHEsownskyCOMMAsothesunwillnotlookdownuponanylandbeyondtheboundariesofwhatisourown
    PERIODPARENTHESES

    In other words,

(We shall extend the empire of Persia such that its boundaries will be God's own sky, so the sun will not look down upon any land beyond the boundaries of what is our own.)

Haven't had time to Google it yet... :)

Okay, I googled that phrase that I decoded and came up with a book: "Code Book: The Science of Secrecy from Ancient Egypt to Quantum Cryptography." In it, a couple names and places are brought up: Greece, Persia, Xerxes, and Demaratus. I tried using these in different combinations as usernames and passwords, and I got a new user/pass. For the next light up (the second to last that's clickable), the username is Xerxes and the password is Demaratus. I have yet to explore the next page in detail...

Ok, a few things, If you click on the right "eye" of the face on the "DONT STRAY FROM THE PATH" page (as you look at it, not the face's right eye) you go to the Philip K. Dick's Fortune Cookie page. By moving your mouse up and down you get 5 lines of a poem:

Like one who, on a lonely road,
Doth walk in fear and dread
And, having once turned round, walks on
And turns no more his head,
Because he knows a frightful fiend
    Doth close behind him tread

A little googling (I am no poetry scholar) revealed that this is an excerpt from Samuel Taylor Coleridge's "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner", however it is also interesting to note that the poem is in Chapter 5 of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

Philip K. Dick is a science fiction writer that has had several of his stories adapted to film. The most recent, and the only one I could find with any referece to a fortune cookie was Paycheck with Ben Afleck and Uma Thurman. I didn't find it right away, so if anyone has seen the movie, ya think you could post the contents of the lead character's fortune cookie?

There is also some text somewhat hidden in the DONT STRAY... page that I don't have time to enhance right now -- gotta go into the lab for a few hours (working on Sat sucks  ), but I will be back at it later.

  50. Publius

    Publius Sergeant

I noticed that if you hold your mouse over the last line of the poem on the Philip K Dick... page a message pops up briefly that states:

YOU ARE NOT OF THE PATH.

So maybe this is a dead end... we should look elsewhere. Especially considering the fact that the page that let me here was entitled DON'T STRAY FROM THE PATH.

Also, I enhanced the text on the DONT STRAY... page. It reads: HOW WOULD YOU LIKE IT IF SOMEONE CAME ALONG AND PICKED SOMETHING OFF OF YOU? -- an obvious reference to the movie The Wizard of Oz.

Philip K Dick's forture cookie = Deeds done in secret have a way of being found out

On a side note, I got a character list from Dance Dance Dance and am trying combinations for more UN/PWs, but nothing so far.
