Eugene, Oregon. It rarely snows in town. Now it is nice and sunny. Real mixed bag this last few days. I was in T-shirts at the weekend.

@Splitt3r - you got snow in Albany today?

BJ, opening a trailer window isn't really classified as air conditioning. :D :p

    Coldest day I've ever experienced in Sydney is about 2 degrees C (36 F). Hottest was 44 C (111 F).

It's really pretty up there, snow makes anything pretty. I saw some pictures from the mountains with some fresh snow and they were beautiful.

It is very picturesque up here. fromw west to east, we have the coast, which is ruggedly awesome, then the coastal mountain range, which is relatively low but rocky, then the great I5 valley, followed by the vast mountainous region which is snow-capped all year round in places and fantastic elk and deer hunting country. You really do have a bit of everything here :)

If I ever get a chance and time I'm coming Elk hunting. I've always wanted to kill an Elk and a Moose. I want a Moose head on my wall next to my 3 deer heads. Make it look really southern. :D

Awesome! We just put last year's shoulder mount of my husband's mule deer up on our wall this weekend. Our son-in-law did an awesome job with it :D This is rugged terrain....deer/elk hunting is very different to what you see on the Men's Channel down south. I have the blisters and broken toe nails to prove it ;)

Keep me posted if you're coming this way BJ. I'm sure I can fix you up with accommodation and people who know the terrain that you could hunt with :)

Last night, I drove home in a near-blizzard with whiteout conditions (you know, the kind where you find a big ol' truck to follow because you can see its lights, and hope he can see the road?). Today, I woke to thunderstorms (very much like Chicago), but it's only 29F and not expected to get above 35F. The caption says "ice pellets".

Tomorrow, wind gusts up to 45mph and snow.

Thunderstorms followed by well below freezing temps equals skating 80 miles to and from work. It took me 2 hours and 5 minutes to get there, and 2 hours 45 minutes to get home.

That picture looks so unreal. LOL I half expect to see Postman Pat walk across the snow with Jess following closely behind and Granny Dryden waving to them (British geeks will understand ;) )

I tried going fishing this morning, we got rain, sleet, about 2" of snow and WIND. Lasted about three hours, just to much cold wind on the water.

Well, I tried to go this morning but it's been in the lower 40s all day and raining so I didnt want to get sick so I didn't go.

It wouldn't be so bad if the wind wasn't blowing 15-20 mph with the rain and 40 degree temps. It's been just horrible today here, it's the "lazy" weather. LOL!

I just checked our forecast, it's supposed to be rain and mid 40s all week. It's going to suck this week.

It's still hot here, even though it's almost the end of summer, 31 degrees C (88F).

Spring and Autumn are very pleasant in Sydney.

If it would just quit raining I would be happy. I want mid 60s with clear skies, what I get is rain and mid 40s. In this weather you can't do anything outside hardly and your stuck inside all day, and on my weekend off.

LOL. Well, you wouldn't have gotten either snow or fishing here either today. Ice storm last night/this morning (just freezing rain & sleet, no flakes) and temps dropping through the 20s all day. Everything is iced until probably Monday. Currently 17 F (~ -8 C) right now.

I don't know how you guys handle the cold.

I've never had to experience anything lower than 2 degrees C (36 F), and even that was bad enough!

  38. Sgt. Tibbs

    Personally, I drink a lot. ;)

I haven't looked at the thermometer, I don't want to know. I had to walk all of 1/2 block to my car tonight, and it was so cold I could feel the skin on my face contracting. Also, the tires have started getting flat on one side if the car sits for more than a couple of hours.

Well, first, your body gets somewhat used to it (aclimatized), and second, you wear a lot of heavy clothes. Think the Michelin Man. :D

Worst I was ever out in, up in the Chicago area, was -28F (-33.3C). Don't know what the wind chill was, but wind was about 20 MPH. Spent an hour in that trying to get my car started. Finally brought the battery inside to warm up and hung a trouble light next to the engine to warm the block up some. Battery charger alone didn't cut it at that temp.

Down here near Memphis, I'll report the weather, but I seldom gripe about it. VERY mild compared to Chicago winters. Not to mention Canadian winters.

If it ever went below zero here, I promise you everyone would literally freeze to death. When it gets into the 20s everyone goes crazy, fills up every car they have with gas, every can with gas, covers up everything in their yard that plastic can fit over. It's hilarious!!

Do you guys need snow tyres or snow chains to drive around your area, or can you get away without them?

  46. Sgt. Tibbs

    Sgt. Tibbs Ultra Geek

Here we don't need them, since we've not got mountains (mostly, I've only ever seen them required in mountains). Before the advent of "all-weather" tires and front-wheel drive, however, about this time of year my dad would put chains on the snow tires for better traction, or we'd never make it up the hill to our house (and that didn't always work, I vividly remember walking through waist-deep snow to the house because we had to park 3/4 of a mile away at the bottom).

  47. Lev

    Lev MajorGeek

In town many people have studded tires during the winter season, though it's not esential. If you head out of town you are going to need chains.

  48. bjgarrick

bjgarrick MajorGeeks Admin - Malware Expert

I wish we had snow that needed chains, all we have is regular tires. The only tire other than a road tire you can get here is "swamp tires" which is what I have on my truck. :D

No stranger to the cold here. I went to a Bills game about 15 years ago...of course no game is complete without the obligatory tailgate party. It was so cold, if you spit, it bounced. It was so cold, I put my beer on top of the grill(on, and cooking)to reach inside my coat for smokes, and by the time I had one out, and lit, my beer was frozen. It was so cold, I went for hot coffee in the third quarter, and it was frozen before I got back to my seat. I learned afterward that the wind chill was 35 below zero. Wanna hear about tough guys? Bruce Smith played the entire game with bare arms. Oh, by the way, Bills 13, Jets 9

Now that's cold! I wish it would get that cold here but the coldest we've ever got was lower 20s.
